New 2024 Porsche Macan EV Could Get 603 HP, Packs 100 kWh Battery

EV performance spec is a neat party trick that’ll surely get people talking, however enthusiastic they are about EVs. The ridiculous power output numbers generated by EV motors not only showcases the car’s ability, but also enticing petrolheads alike to have it a go.

Porsche has recently unveiled the technical details of its SUV EV debutant, the 2024 Porsche Macan EV. The upcoming Macan EV underpins VW’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE), with future Porsche EVs based on it, too.

As reported by Autocar UK, the new Macan EV boasts 603 HP and over 1,000 NM, delivered via its dual-electric motor derived from the Porsche Taycan. However, said motors have been tuned-up and improved in order to squeeze out more juices and power. Improvements come in the form of new ‘double-V’ magnet arrangement as well as swapping silicon semiconductors to silicon-carbide ones.
Said power output will be delivered via all four of the Macan EV’s wheels, making it an all-wheel drive EV SUV. The Stuttgart-based marque has yet to confirm the inclusion of ‘overboost’ function on this upcoming Macan EV. The current Porsche Taycan Turbo S comes with said ‘overboost’ function that works in temporarily increasing both power and torque to 751 HP and 1050 NM.
In charge of the Macan EV’s powertrain is Antoon Janssen. Janssen noted that this PPE platform is also capable of being equipped with rear-wheel drive configuration.

Continuing with the chassis, the Macan EV will have a rear axle plus a motor that sits as far rear as it possibly could. The Macan EV chassis manager, Dominik Hartmann stated this installation enables the Macan EV to have a great weight distribution of 48% at front and 52% at back, improving its traction control and vehicle’s overall balance. For reference, the Taycan’s weight distribution ratio is 49:51 front to rear. Quite an impressive feat for an EV SUV.
Further helping in the balancing act is the introduction of dual-valve dampers on the Macan EV – first-ever Porsche model to come bolted with those. Said dampers are independently adjustable via Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system, giving more ride comfort for passengers.
All Porsche Macan EV variants will come standard with a 100-kWh lithium ion battery pack – an optimum size for compact EV SUV, Porsche claims. Again, no further reports by Autocar on the Macan EV’s claimed travel range, with the closest bet being the 93-kWh Taycan that can go as far as 500 KM per charge. The Macan EV’s PPE platform allows a maximum charging rate of 270kW, so charging this EV SUV is definitely no slouch.

The 2024 Porsche Macan EV is scheduled to be delivered later in 2024. The EV SUV launch will go hand-in-hand with Porsche’s goal to make its EV sales accounting for half of its total global sales in 2025, with 80% targeted by the end of this decade. With the petrol-powered Macan already being the marque’s current best-seller, the Macan EV should find no problem in convincing buyers, considering the current unprecedented demand for EV SUVs.
