2023 Volvo XC40 B5 Ultimate Mild Hybrid Lands – From RM268,888

Volvo Car Malaysia sees its line-up refreshed with the addition of the face-lifted 2023 Volvo XC40 B5 Ultimate model into said range. This variant of the compact crossover SUV, which packs a mild hybrid powertrain, also sports a number of minor updates for both its aesthetics and on-board features.

Under the hood, the XC40 B5 harnesses a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cyl petrol mill delivering 263 HP and 390 NM. Said outputs are managed by an 8-speed Geartronic automatic transmission plus an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, thus allowing for a respectable 0-100 KM/H sprint time of 6.4 seconds.

The mild hybrid element stems from the advanced kinetic energy recovery braking system – a la Formula 1-styled KERS – that the powertrain works in tandem with. This, in turn, grants this compact crossover SUV with the frugal ability to sip just 7.7 litres/100 KM on average plus lower CO2 emissions figure of 176 g/KM too.

As seen when first released globally this year, the face-lifted XC40 sees a mild nip-tuck with its exterior styling. Much of which centres around the front fascia where it now sports triangular headlights plus a sportier bumper with sharper contours and triangular foglamps surrounds. Wheels, on the other hand, come in the form of 19-inch units with a five-Y-spoke design motif.

For the Malaysian-spec XC40 B5 Ultimate, Volvo Car Malaysia have also readied a new ‘Fjord Blue’ exterior paint option. This comes on top of four other hues available, those being Black Stone, Crystal White, Silver Dawn and Thunder Grey.

On board, there aren’t any aesthetic revisions to note, with Volvo choosing to update some key kit instead. Leading the latter’s bill is a new Android-based infotainment system primed with built-in Google services, which is paired with a new Harman Kardon premium hi-fi audio setup plus a 360-degree surround view camera function too. Additionally, there’s now a PM2.5-rated Remote Air Purifier present too.

As for price, the face-lifted Volvo XC40 B5 Ultimate mild hybrid crossover SUV is tagged at RM268,888 sans insurance. Orders for the refreshed 2023 Volvo XC40 B5 Ultimate mild hybrid can now be placed both through authorised dealers and online via Volvo Car Malaysia’s official website, volvocars.com/my/build/xc40.
