New GWM Ora 5 EV SUV Officially Revealed in China
The new GWM Ora 5 officially debuted in China earlier this week as the first all-new offering from the EV sub-brand since the Ora 07.

First leaked earlier this month, the new GM Ora 5 pictured is a brand new EV SUV offering that just debuted in China this week. The first all-new model for the Ora sub-brand since the sleek Ora 07 finally sees GWM (Great Wall Motor) fill a gap in its EV line-up – this goes up against the BYD Atto 3.
As reported prior, the new GWM Ora 5 – initially reported as the ‘GWM Ora Cat’ based on the name filed with China’s MIIT prior – ‘borrows’ plenty of design cues from the GWM Ora Good Cat EV hatch. We’ll again point out that this is a totally different car altogether.

Initial images from its MIIT filing that leaked online earlier this month. Despite similar looks, the Ora 5 does not share body parts with the similarly-styled GWM Ora Good Cat EV hatch.

That last fact is evident in the Ora 5’s footprint and dimensions – it’s 236 mm longer with a 70 mm wheelbase stretch, 58 mm wider and 45 mm taller than the Good Cat. Size and dimensions aside, there are other details that help differentiate this from its hatch ‘twin’ mentioned.
Key amongst the latter include newly added and rather rugged-looking roof rails, and the distinctively different ‘glasshouse’ structure in the Ora 5 - it's longer and more upright. That last fact should signal that this EV SUV does not share the same body as the Good Cat hatch.
What is shared between both though are the ovoid (rounded) full-LED headlights, distinct and striking full-width ‘dawn’ taillights that’s integrated into the rear windscreen, as well as the front bumper design featuring a centre intake flanked by vertical corner inlets.
Altogether, this EV SUV 'twin' to the Good Cat sits some 236 mm longer with a 70 mm wheelbase stretch, 58 mm wider and some 45 mm taller too.

Moving inside and, predictably, the cabin design mirrors what you’ll see in the Good Cat hatch, albeit with some minor differences. These include the more conventional-looking centre console design that also houses a wireless charger, cupholders and armrest.
Shared with the recently face-lifted GWM Ora Good Cat model for China is the latest GWM Coffee OS infotainment software, as well as both the 10.25-inch digital instrument display and 14.6-inch floating central touchscreen infotainment interface.
Another unique addition here is a sizeable panoramic glass roof, though we reckon it’s the rear seats that offer both up to 128-degrees of recline and an ‘ottoman’ mode will impress most prospects. Perhaps the presence of 33 storage bins around the cabin would too.

The innards of the Ora 5 again mirror its smaller EV hatch twin, but there are subtle differences. Notable here too is the rear seat that's reclinable up to 128-degrees with an 'Ottoman' mode plus up to 33 storage bins.

Moving to powertrain and, again, as expected, the GWM Ora 5 adopts a familiar front-mounted e-motor outputting 204 PS (150 kW) to the front wheels (FWD). Juicing which is an LFP-type battery pack, though its capacity and claimed range remains undisclosed.
Lastly, eagle-eyed readers would also spot yet another critical difference, that being the presence of a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor. In other words, expect the Chinese market version of GWM Ora 5 to boast high levels of semi-autonomous driving abilities (Level 2+ at minimum) too.
Another notable addition - at least to the Chinese market version - is the roof-mounted LiDAR sensor.

No word when exactly GWM plans to market the new Ora 5 EV SUV detailed in its Chinese home market, but this is expected to commence soon enough. And given that this is set to rival the BYD Atto 3, we’re also willing to bet the automaker will have it exported overseas too.
Until then, what do you folks reckon? Are you digging this larger, lifted and slightly more rugged twin to the GWM Ora Good Cat? Share your take in the comments below…
