Locally Assembled (CKD) Mercedes-Benz EQ EV models coming soon

At the new Mercedes-Benz EQE 350+ launch event held earlier today, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) confirmed plans of inducting electric vehicle (EV) models from its electrified EQ range into its local assembly (CKD) efforts very soon.

L-R: Sagree Sardien, MBM's CEO & president, with Michael Jopp, MBM's head of sales & marketing.
Sagree Sardien, CEO and president of MBM, as well as Michael Jopp, MBM’s head of sales and marketing, confirmed this plan in their respective keynote speeches shortly before unveiling the EQE 350+ today. However, both execs didn’t exactly reveal what model (or models) the firm will start locally assembling.
Both also remain coy and tight-lipped when approached by CariCarz.com privately after the launch event, but both did confirm that more details will be revealed in an announcement planned for the first quarter (Q1) of next year (2023), likely to be the firm’s annual business performance press conference.
Certainly, these localised EV models will roll off the line at MBM’s plant in Pekan, Pahang, with initial deliveries slated to begin sometime next year.

Given the stellar reception of its electrified EQ range in the local market this year, as well as the recent spur of EV charging facilities being developed locally by various parties, MBM’s move to CKD its EVs is sound indeed.
Besides the EQE launched earlier today, MBM’s EQ models line up currently consists of the EQA, EQB and EQC crossover SUVs, as well as the flagship EQS launched earlier this year. Your guess is as good as ours as of the aforementioned Mercedes-Benz EQ models will be the first to enter Pekan’s assembly line.

L-R: Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 AMG Line, EQC 400 4Matic.
Though there are rumours about the flagship EQS being first in line for this CKD effort, we cannot discount either the EQA or EQC models too considering that their combustion-powered GLA and GLC twins are already being assembled locally.
Hit the comments below with your predictions as to which will get the CKD treatment first…
