PLUS Estimates Year-End Traffic Increase Of Two Million

During the next holiday season, PLUS highway traffic is expected to rise to two million vehicles per day.

According to Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi, chief operating officer of PLUS Malaysia Berhad, daily traffic has already surpassed 1.8 million cars, up from 1.6 million in 2019, as of Wednesday (Dec. 21).

From Friday (Dec. 23) through Jan. 2, the number is expected to approach two million per day.

To assist highway users in planning their route, PLUS also distributed a travel time advisory.

It is advisable for drivers leaving the Klang Valley to enter the highway before 10am if they are going north or south, and between noon and 4pm if they are going east.

Those heading to the Klang Valley from other states are advised to enter the highway before 10am.

“The advisory focuses on traffic distribution and is aimed at reducing congestion on the highway, most notably at major stretches, toll plazas and rest areas during the festive period,” he said.

The advisory is available on the PLUS website, located at www.plus.com.my, as well as any of its social media channels.

In order to avoid excessive congestion, "stop work" and "no lane closure" orders will be in force from Friday through Monday (Dec. 26) and from Dec. 30 to Jan. 1.

Nevertheless, he continued, "temporary lane closures may be carried out in the event of accidents, emergencies, or important maintenance for safety purposes."

Road users should check Twitter for updates or use the PLUS app to find congested areas, according to Zakaria.

Additionally, he recommended people to make sure they are psychologically and physically prepared for travel, especially in light of potentially hazardous weather, and to make sure their Touch n Go and e-wallets have enough money in them to prevent delays at toll plazas.
