Video: Axia Bursts In Flames After Running Red Light And hit By Oncoming BMW
Video credit: Harian Metro A Perodua Axia that ran a red traffic light caught fire after being hit by another car at the Jalan Sungai Ujong traffic light in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan Sunday night (Dec 25).
According to Seremban District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Nanda Maarof, the Perodua Axia caught fire at 10.45 p.m. that night.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident occurred while the Perodua Axia driver, a 45-year-old man, was driving alone from the Petron petrol station on Jalan Sungai Ujong to the Time Hotel in Seremban.
The driver of the Perodua Axia ignored the red lights from his direction and turned right to enter the intersection," he said in a statement.
According to Nanda, a BMW 320i driven by a 40-year-old male approached from the opposite direction and stroke the left side of the Perodua Axia.
“The Perodua Axia turned and crashed up the middle wall of the road barrier, colliding with a traffic signal pole. The incident also caused the Perodua Axia to catch fire”, he stated.
However, no injuries were reported in the accident.
"The Fire and Rescue Department that responded to the scene effectively extinguished the burning vehicle," Nanda said.
He stated that the case was probed under Regulation 17 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959, and that additional investigations were still ongoing.
