A set of four (4) accusations against Datuk Dr. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim, the former director-general of the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), were recently brought against him in the Sessions Court. These accusations centre on the purported fabrication of paperwork pertaining to the purchase of vehicles for collision tests at the MIROS Crash Test Laboratory, which is situated in Bukit Katil, Ayer Keroh, Melaka, Malaysia.
The accused, a 47-year-old man, adamantly maintained his innocence throughout the court processes and entered a not guilty plea to each of the four accusations. He is accused of altering quotation paperwork from numerous businesses that were all engaged in the delivery of 16 vehicles from Thailand. In order to present these forged documents as accurate depictions of the procurement process, these automobiles were meant to be used in the accident tests conducted by MIROS.
The alleged crimes allegedly occurred on July 24, 2017, on the grounds of Taman Kajang Sentral in Kajang, a short distance from the MIROS headquarters.
The allegations made against Datuk Dr. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim are all in line with Section 468 of the Malaysian Penal Code. If found guilty, this clause specifies penalties that may include up to seven years in prison and a large fine.
This case serves as an example of the severe legal ramifications and potential impact on the former MIROS director-general's professional and personal life, underscoring the significance of maintaining the integrity of documentation in government institutions and organisations in charge of road safety research and regulation.
