Latest Mazda CX-90 Teaser Video Unveils Front Fascia, More Design Cues

Days before its world premiere, Mazda has yet again teased the upcoming 2024 Mazda CX-90 SUV. Part of the CX-90’s “unboxing” teaser campaign, the new teaser video unveiled a glimpse of the three-row SUV’s exterior design, including a full view of its front fascia.
Said new teaser video primarily discussed the performance aspect of the CX-90, with the SUV’s turbocharged 3.3-litre inline-six mill rated at 340 HP and 500 NM featured on it. The marque’s Senior Designer Yasutake Tsuchida also featured in said video, where he explained about the meticulous process of fitting the CX-90’s engine bay with a straight-six mill, which required every other parts of the powertrain, including the gearbox to be re-engineered.
The massive engine also prompted Mazda to fit the CX-90 with a rear-wheel-drive configuration (RWD) – also revealed via said teaser video. The re-engineered transmission also left ample spaces at front, thus enabling the engineers to house Mazda’s proprietary Kinetic Posture Control (KPC) system borrowed from the MX-5 Miata sports coupe. All in all, these upgrades are said to guarantee a much sportier, non-SUV-like driving experience for the CX-90.
Back to the design, the highlight of the video is probably the full front-end of the CX-90, unveiling the SUV’s massive front grille – a signature element in Mazda’s KODO design philosophy. Said front grille boasts a unique cage-like design, unlike the standard horizontal grille design donned on the CX-9 SUV. Flanking the grille is a pair of headlights that are more compact compared to other Mazda SUVs’ headlights.
The bottom half of the front fascia is primed with a chromed lip, flanked by a pair of LED horizontally-mounted foglights strip with what seemed like a faux intake on its side.
Aside from the front fascia, the video also premiered the multi-spoke wheel design of the CX-90, finished in two-tone hue of silver and dark grey. To add, there’s also a split frame in the video that showcases the rear end of the SUV, which reveals its previously-teased taillights design, as well as the chromed Mazda badge at dead centre. During the rolling shot segment, part of the side skirts was unveiled, laced with chromed strips that matches the front lip, grille surround, as well as the roof rails – also featured during said segment.
Finally, there’s a short moment where the video presented the interior part of the CX-90, only revealing the steering wheel design of the car, which, anticlimactically, looks painstakingly similar to any other Mazda steering wheels, at least from the restricted angle.
Prior to this, Mazda have already shown several teaser videos and images, with one of the teaser photos even unveiling the CX-90 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) badging, as well as the “Inline 6” badging that dons the SUV’s front fenders.
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 SUV is primed to make its global debut on Jan 31, 2023. As of writing, there are no ongoing rumours that suggest this North America-bound three-row SUV will ever grace our local market.
