Mercedes A-Class Lady Driver Caught For 45 Unpaid Toll At AKLEH
Freeloader caught in action! Enforcement officer on Ampang–Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH) apprehended yet another driver attempting to avoid paying toll.
This time around the offender was driving a Mercedes A-Class just going to show that lack of money is not the reason for this action but pure disregard for rules. The offender, a lady, was caught for 45 accounts of unpaid toll totaling RM275.65 which she paid it off immediately.
Previously in Sept 2022, a similar case was highlighted by enforcement officers in AKLEH where a Proton X50 driver was nabbed for having unpaid toll arrears of RM57.50 which he too settled in full immediately.
As we highlighted before, up to now all toll related offences are under the purview of the Federal Roads (Private Management) Act 1984, Section 8 which carries a penalty between RM2,000 and RM5,000 upon conviction. This however is a non criminal offence hence requires a toll concessionaire to take civil suit action against offenders which is only justifiable if the claim is of a substantial amount.
Authorities at AKLEH further advised users to be mindful of other toll users and don’t tailgate others to avoid paying toll as this action will endanger the vehicle in front. Other twitter comments are calling for more stern action to be taken such as a hefty fine to discourage such actions rather than being let off lightly by simply paying off the unpaid toll amount.
