MyCC Denies Allegations It Did Nothing To Address Complaints Over TnG Services
The Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) has refuted claims that it remained silent despite an increasing number of complaints from the public about Touch 'n Go Sdn Bhd's services (TnG).
Datuk Seri Mohd Hishamudin Yunus, its chairman, insisted that the issues brought to MyCC's attention in 2018, including those raised by the Federation of Malaysian Consumers Association (Fomca), were solely related to consumerism.
Hishamudin stated that the issues raised by Fomca regarding TnG included a 10% parking surcharge, difficulty topping up due to a lack of reload channels, a reload charge of RM0.50 at certain locations, a delayed refund for dormant or lost cards, and other customer service issues. Hishamudin was responding to a recent statement by Fomca, in which the commission was accused of failing to end TnG's alleged "monopolistic" behaviour. According to Fomca Secretary-General Paul Selva Raj, the association has been filing complaints against TnG over the payment system provider's alleged monopolistic position since 2018.

Hishamudin, on the other hand, claimed that Fomca has imposed a "clear misconception" on monopoly issues. According to him, the Competition Act of 2010 states that being a dominant or monopoly in a specific market is not an infringement. According to him, a monopolistic or dominant enterprise violates the Act only when it abuses its market position.

Hishamudin stated that MyCC agreed with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry that TnG should do more to address the issues surrounding Radio Frequency Identification implementation (RFID).
