Peugeot Inception Concept Teases Future Design with Cutting-Edge Technology

French automaker Peugeot has unveiled a concept car at the on-going Consumer Electronics Show 2023 (CES 2023) in Las Vegas. Called the Inception Concept, it gives a glimpse of what the marque’s upcoming generation of electrified sedans and SUVs would look like from 2025 onwards.

The event serves as a mission statement for the French brand's future production vehicles, which will be designed with three important characteristics in mind: Appeal, Emotion, and Quality.

Additionally, upcoming Peugeot vehicles will follow in the footsteps of the new Peugeot 408 saloon-SUV in "pushing conventional forms," and the Inception bears no resemblance to anything in the existing Peugeot line-up.

It's similar in shape to the Peugeot 508 saloon but somewhat larger, measuring 5,000 MM long by 2,100 MM wide and sitting low to the ground with its roof only at 1,340 MM and sporting a sharp, fastback design.

The hood line that sweeps up and back over the headlights is reminiscent of the brand's automobiles from the 1970s and early 1980s, but the lights are LEDs this time, and the grille joining them is a massive glass panel.

Also, the wheels are similar to those on the new 408 sedan, but they now have horizon-levelling and lighted lion insignia. The rear digital panel, like the front panel,  has the same cat's claw light motif that’s familiar to any current Peugeot owners.

Under the hood, it has a 100 kWh battery that claims to be capable of 4.97 miles (8 KM) per kWh for a total range of 805 KM. Furthermore, because it is outfitted with 800V charging hardware, it can charge at a rate of nearly 31 KM per minute, or more than 145 KM in five minutes.

Thanks to STLA AutoDrive, it offers Level 4 autonomous driving. This mode converts the cockpit from a driver-focused environment to a more comfortable one.

On the other hand, the Hypersquare - a rectangular steering wheel inspired by video game controllers that combines a centre-mounted tablet and four thumb-operated control rings was designed as a replacement for Peugeot's influential i-Cockpit interior and will be fitted to a real car by the end of this decade.

Notably, the Inception is built on the large version of this platform, while there will also be Small, Medium, and Frame versions to accommodate different market groups. In reality, these versions will be utilised for the largest, fastest, and most opulent passenger cars in the Stellantis lineup.

While the Peugeot Inception may appear futuristic with its redesigned tech and advanced features, the carmaker hopes to bring the majority of the concept's advances to production by 2025. Also, the company plans to introduce five additional EVs over the next two years and go all-electric in Europe by 2030.
