2023 Perodua Axia D74A Bags 4-Star ASEAN NCAP Rating
The all-new 2023 Perodua Axia D74A was previewed yesterday and, though still draped in a partial camouflage, we can pretty much put all guessing games aside as the design and tech this budget supermini has to offer was already announced.
Now, we can also confirm that the new Axia will be one of the safest money can buy in its segment too. That’s because the ASEAN NCAP organisation has awarded the new 2023 Perodua Axia, specifically in SE variant form, with an admirable 4 Star crash-test rating.
In the front frontal impact test, the organisation says that both adult front occupants received good protection, especially in the driver’s lower leg and passenger’s chest. As for side impact tests, data shows there was marginal protection provided to the driver’s chest too.
With regards to child occupant protection, the new Axia passed in all rearward facing child seat brands tested, which covers scenarios involving toddlers aged between 18 months and 3 years old. The data also shows it is highly recommended to affix all child seats at the left or right rear seat instead of the centre.
The new Perodua Axia in SE trim and below are primed only with two airbags plus basic driver assist systems. In terms of the Safety Assist test, the SE comes with seatbelt reminder for all seats, ABS and electronic stability control (VSC).
The range-topping AV variant, on the other hand, benefits with a bigger arsenal that includes six airbags and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB). ASEAN NCAP has tested the latter and confirms the effectiveness of AEB City, AEB Inter-Urban and AEB Pedestrian. The AV variant will also come with other safety features such as Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Blind-Spot Detection (BSD) on both sides to detect both cars and motorcycles, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) too.
Overall, the 2023 Perodua Axia D74A scored an impressive 73.55 points, with 32.06 of which earned through Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 17.03 from Child Occupant Protection (COP), 15.71 for Safety Assist (SA), and 8.75 in Motorcyclist Safety (MS). Furthermore, the Axia scored 5-Stars in all categories except MS which pulled its ASEAN NCAP rating down to the 4-Star rating.
