Skypark Train Sets Rerouted To KTM Komuter Klang Valley & Utara - Train Frequency To Increase
Following the launch of the MyRailLife free train ride for school students and person with disabilities (PwD) yesterday, Minister of Transport, YB Anthony Loke also announced the rerouting of the Skypark train service which has been servicing the Skypark Terminal, Subang to KL Sentral beginning 15 Feb 2023.
The Subang to KL Sentral route was serviced by 4 sets of 3-car Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) trains. Now 1 train set would be rerouted to be used by KTM Komuter services in the Klang Valley while 3 other train sets will be deployed to KTM Komuter Utara services for the Padang Besar – Butterworth – Padang Besar and Padang Rengas – Butterworth – Padang Rengas lines.
With these additional train sets, beginning 18 Feb 2023, there will be an improvement in the timetable for the KTM Komuter Utara whereby Padang Besar to Butterworth route frequency would be cut down from 60 minutes to 20 minutes during the morning peak hours and from 60 minutes to 30 minutes during the evening peak hours.
For the Butterworth to Padang Besar route, the service schedule is expected to be improved with a frequency of every 30 minutes during the morning and evening peak hours while the Padang Rengas - Butterworth - Padang Rengas route will also be improved with an off-peak hours frequency of every 120 minutes as compared to 180 minutes previously. Furthermore this would also increase the number of trips for the Padang Besar - Butterworth - Padang Besar route from 26 trips to 36 trips and for the Padang Rengas - Butterworth - Padang Rengas route from 12 trips to 16 trips per day.
This termination of the Subang Skypark service and train set rerouting exercise is expected to meet the increasing needs and demands of passengers who use KTM Komuter Utara services for their daily commute in the states of Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak.
