Sime Darby Motors Delivers 1,000 BYD Atto 3 EVs In Just 100 Days

Sime Darby Motors marked a record-breaking feat through its BYD electric vehicle (EV) brand last weekend following a one-of-a-kind mass delivery event held at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium. The feat saw the firm successfully deliver no less than 1,000 units of the BYD Atto 3 in a span of just 100 days.

This follows up from the firm’s last record-setting feat with the upstart Chinese EV brand where it delivered the first 100 units of the same model within the first 10 days of the brand’s – and model’s – official launch event.
“This is testament to the strong partnership with Sime Darby Motors and we are optimistic on the growth prospects of EV in Malaysia,” commented Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
Adding to which was Jefferey Gan, Managing Director of Retail and Distribution of Sime Darby Motors Malaysia, who said, “This celebration marks a milestone in Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) market, setting a precedent that reflects the increasing popularity and acceptance of EV in the country.”

Additionally, Sime Darby Motors also announced the opening of the latest BYD showroom located at Gurney Plaza, Penang. The outlet occupies a 1,500 square feet space, and it is supplemented with a service centre located just 6 KM away in Sungai Pinang that occupies a larger 20,000 square feet space.
Notably, the latter facility is also primed with body and paint services on top of the ability to provide vehicle service plus wear and tear repairs. It stands to provide customers with a seamless and convenient facility catering to the aftersales needs of BYD customers based in the island state.

Launched late last year, the BYD Atto 3 electric crossover SUV is offered in two variants – a Standard Range and an Extended Range. Both are primed using the Chinese marque’s proprietary ‘blade’ LFP battery designs with capacities of 49.9 kWh (Standard Range) and 60.4 kWh (Extended Range).
Whilst the Standard Range offers up to 410 KM of travel, the up-specced Extended Range variant boasts a longer travel range of 480 KM instead. It’s also capable of accepting DC fast-charging inputs of up to 80 kW, thus allowing 0-80% charges attained in just about 45 minutes.
As for price, the BYD Atto 3 retails at RM149,800 in Standard Range form, whereas the Extended Range version is tagged at a higher RM167,800 figure, both excluding on-road costs and insurance. You can read our test-drive report of the BYD Atto 3 Extended Range by clicking these blue words.
