BMW Concept Touring Coupe Debuts with Stunning ‘Clown Shoe’ Style

The BMW showcase at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este auto festival always promises unique concepts and future models preview, with the likes of M4 CSL and Z4 Zagato Concept making headlines during the previous editions.

For this year’s showcase, the Bavarian marque is debuting the all-new BMW Concept Touring Coupe. Like its name suggests, this new concept model previews what could be a future production Bimmer with stunning ‘clown shoe’ bodystyle.
We’ve seen many BMW touring/wagon models before like the newly-launched BMW M3 Touring, but a three-door BMW shooting brake model is somewhat a rarity, with the only previous model featuring this layout being the E36/8-gen BMW Z3 M Coupe.

Now, let’s talk about the new concept model here. Although the Concept Touring Coupe borrows its front-half from the BMW Z4, many would consider this to be the spiritual successor of the aforementioned Z3 M Coupe. Beyond the similar clown-shoe bodystyle, both models are powered by an inline-six engine, with the new concept model possibly harnessing the 3.0-litre B58 engine used in many current BMW models.

Moving to its style, the front part of the Concept Touring Coupe mirrors the current-gen Z4, featuring elongated front hood that further accentuates the car’s clown-shoe silhouette. The rear half of the model, on the other hand, features sporty wagon/hatch roofline, while the bulging rear fenders gives the model a very sporty and muscular stature.

Apart from the styling benefit, those flared-out fenders are essential to make room for the car’s massive 21-inch rear wheels, while the front ones get the smaller 20-inch ones – both featuring stylish 20-spoke design.

On board, the Concept Touring Coupe is laced with premium materials like pure Italian leather upholstery with two-tone finish of dark brown in the upper front dash area and light saddle brown for the rest of the cabin. Elsewhere, the model comes with typical BMW cabin layout, featuring the dual-screen layout at the front dash, albeit not the curved one we see on several new BMW models.

During its launch, the Bavarian marque has not revealed any plans to turn this concept into future production models. However, BMW Group design director Adrian van Hooydonk remains open with that idea, citing that the Concept Touring Coupe could be the newest coach-built model by the marque, after the limited-edition BMW 3.0 CSL.

Speaking to Motor1, the BMW design boss said, “[The Concept Touring Coupe] is a one-off at the moment, and there’s no concrete plans to put it in production. But, we made the agreement before we set sail for Lake Como that, if there's enough interest, we will take a look at it. That could be a very low-volume version, like 50 cars or so.”

So folks, what are your thoughts on this new BMW Concept Touring Coupe? Would you be keen to see this stunning clown-shoe concept model turned into a limited-run production model? Hit the comments below with your thoughts, then.
