Previewed: GWM Haval H6 & Jolion HEV Hybrid SUVs – Coming Soon?

The Malaysian SUV market is pretty tight now, but folks at Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia think there’s more space for newcomers in further expanding this already packed segment. Previewed publically for the first time ever at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023 is the two SUV models from the firm’s sub-brand Haval, cordially known as the Haval H6 HEV and Haval Jolion HEV.

Starting off with the bigger of the two, the Haval H6 HEV posits itself as a C-segment SUV, primed with premium amenities and equipment. This third-gen facelifted H6 features your typical boxy SUV silhouette, with its front fascia featuring sharp-looking LED headlights, flanking the massive front grille with pin-style design.

As for the side part, we can clearly see the H6 rides on a set of black-hued 19-inch wheels with dual five-spoke design. Complementing the blacked-out wheels are a few black trims, notably on the window surround, roof rails, as well as the front fender trim and lower body cladding.

At the rear, the Haval H6 features a width-span LED light bar with the actual taillights flanking on each side. Situated below said LED bar is the chromed-up Haval badging with elongated chrome strip, giving a slight premium touch on this SUV.

As the rear badge suggests, the Haval H6 is a hybrid (HEV) SUV indeed, powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbocharged mill that works in-tandem with a 130 kW-rated hybrid motor to deliver a total system output of 240 HP and 530 NM. This powertrain setup is then mated to a dedicated hybrid automatic transmission, promising a smoother driving experience.

On board, the Haval H6’s grey-and-black cabin is laced with a slew of tech amenities and modern equipment. Crowning above the front dash is a 12.3-inch infotainment display with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. Drivers will get an equally sizable 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, alongside the car’s practical steering wheel with essential controls mounted on them.

Elsewhere, the H6 comes standard with faux leather upholstery for all seats, while standard comfort features like dual-zone air-cond with dedicated rear air vents, multiple USB sockets and keyless ignition are all available, making it on par with segment rivals like the newly-launched Subaru Forester, Honda CR-V and many more.
The H6 is not too shabby on the safety front, too, as it comes standard with ADAS features like Adaptive Cruise Control with Cornerning Assist (ACC), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Assist (LDA), Wisdom Dodge System (WDS), Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (BSM, RCTA), and many more.

Aside from the H6, GWM also previewed its B-SUV fighter, the Haval Jolion HEV. Just like its bigger siblings, the Jolion is also a hybrid (HEV) vehicle, powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbocharged that pairs up with a single hybrid motor setup, delivering over 188 HP and 190 PS to boot. Similar to the H6, this powertrain setup is mated to Haval’s Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (HDT).

Appearance-wise, the Haval Jolion features some striking design cues, while keeping the conventional boxy SUV shape. At the front, it comes with this stunning-looking LED headlights design that flanks the pin-style front grille. At the rear, the Jolion sports L-shaped LED taillights, with big Haval writing spread across the car’s width.

Inside, the Jolion is able to keep up with fellow segment rivals like the Honda HR-V, Proton X50 and the newly-launched Hyundai Creta. It is primed with the same 12.3-inch infotainment display as the H6, also supporting mobile connectivity like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Drivers will get a smaller 7-inch digital display, plus 6-way power adjustable seat, wrapped in faux leather upholstery.

Elsewhere, the Jolion comes standard with modern amenities like dual-zone climate control with dedicated rear climate vents, multiple USB sockets, wireless charging pad, and many more.

Both the Haval H6 HEV and Jolion HEV SUVs are poised to set the local SUV market ablaze with its appearance, with the former earmarked for an official Malaysian debut later this year. Aside from Haval, GWM also plans to bring in the GWM Cannon pick-up truck, which we’ll talk more about in an upcoming article.
So folks, what are your thoughts on these two Chinese SUVs? Keen to see Haval taking on the big guys from Honda and Proton? To get a more insightful view on these two models, you can visit GWM Malaysia’s booth at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023, located at Hall A in MAEPS, Selangor.
