Parking Spots Reserved For Staff, Disabled - MRT Corp
According to Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp), the parking spaces at Jalan Rimbunan Raya 1 near the Kepong Baru MRT station in Kuala Lumpur are for staff and people with disabilities.
This response comes in light to concerns raised by local activist Yee Poh Ping about newly installed signage at the carpark entrance.
The signs had led some to believe that the bays were only for people with disabilities, but they were not accessible due to a barrier.
"We have kept the parking area reserved for our employees, but we have now made the bays available to individuals with disabilities."
"If you want to park, just call us at the number provided at the entrance."
"One of our employees will promptly come down, open the gate, and guide you to the parking space," a spokesperson said in a statement to the press.
Yee mentioned the limited number of parking spaces available for visitors at the Laman Rimbunan commercial area during a press conference.
He claimed that due to a lack of parking spaces, visitors resorted to double-parking, causing traffic congestion in the area.
He stated that a significant number of the 52 exclusive parking bays designated for staff and people with disabilities remain unoccupied and underutilised.
Yee urged MRT Corp to address the area's parking problem, which was first brought to light by StarMetro on April 25.
"We want them to see the situation for themselves and talk about it with us."
"The parking bays should be open to the public as it would be more convenient for MRT users to park their cars there instead of occupying spaces in the commercial area," he said.
Yee proposed that MRT Corp build parking facilities beneath the station for its employees while making the current parking space available to the public.
