Lamborghini SC63 LMDh Debuts As Raging Bull’s Le Mans Fighter

This year’s 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans saw Ferrari taking the momentous centenary title home, managing to cut its teeth against the raging Toyota GR 010 in the eventful day-long race. However, next year’s Le Mans is about to get more interesting, as yet another Italian automaker decides to enter into the endurance racing foray, with its newly-launched LMDh prototype.

2024 Lamborghini SC63 LMDh
Of course, we’re talking about Lamborghini, who just launched its 2024 Le Mans contender, cordially known as the Lamborghini SC63 LMDh. Making its debut at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the SC63 is an LMDh prototype vehicle, set to compete in next year’s FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The SC63 harnesses a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 under its bodywork
To compete at this level, the SC63 is fitted with a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine designed specifically for racing. It features a ‘cold V’ configuration, where the turbochargers are mounted outside the V-angle of the engine, enabling the cylinders to be cooled-off and maintained easier than other conventional turbocharged V8 engines. Mated to a hybrid system featuring Bosch electronic control unit, the SC63 is capable of delivering 671 HP (600 kW), as per FIA WEC regulations.

For its monocoque chassis, Lamborghini employs renowned French chassis maker Ligier – one of the selected chassis suppliers chosen by LMDh regulations. Visually, the SC63 sports several Lambo-like elements, notably its Y-shaped headlights and taillights derived from the new Revuelto. Draped in Verde Mantis body hue, the SC63 also dons the Tricolore as part of its livery design, paying homage to its mother land.

Lamborghini is poised to outfit two SC63s – one will be competing in the 2024 FIA WEC, while the other is heading to IMSA for events in the North American Endurance Championship. Both cars will be part of the Iron Lynx team – an experienced racing outfit who previously raced the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo 2 in both IMSA and GT World Challenge Europe series.

Excited to see the Lamborghini SC63 battling it out against the Ferrari hypercar in next year's Le Mans?
However, the SC63 is not quite ready to hit the track yet, as both Lamborghini and Iron Lynx are still developing the car in a series of testing sessions, before making its racing debut next year. In charge of driving these two mean machines are two Lamborghini factory drivers Mirko Bortolotti and Andrea Caldarelli, which will be joined by two Formula One alum and endurance racing newcomers Daniil Kvyat and Romain Grosjean.
