Yesterday, Transport Minister YB Anthony Loke delivered an update on the Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) project's development. Loke reported that construction is progressing quickly, with completion at 86%, including the installation of the signalling system.
Currently, 22 sets of three-coach trains are being tested thoroughly. LRT3 operations are expected to begin on March 1, 2025, which is approximately 18 to 19 months from now. Loke expressed confidence in the project's successful implementation, emphasising the significance of collaboration among all stakeholders to fulfil the target deadline.

The LRT3 is intended to assist nearly two million Klang Valley people, notably those living between Petaling Jaya and Klang. As a densely populated and developed region, tens of thousands of passengers are expected to utilise the LRT3.
With a capacity to accommodate 18,630 passengers per hour per direction, the project will include two interchange stations. Bandar Utama will connect the MRT Kajang Line to LRT3, while Glenmarie will connect the Kelana Jaya Line to LRT3. A flyover will connect these two stations, improving the system's overall connection.

Loke emphasised that the 22 train sets are all brand new, luxurious, and outfitted with environmentally friendly "green technology." They are currently in the last stages of testing to ensure their readiness for the approaching opening.
During a site visit to the depot and LRT3 operation control center, Loke personally conducted a test drive on the trial route using one of the trains. He emphasised that the LRT3 is an important addition to public transportation in the Klang Valley, with the goal of encouraging more people to use public transportation in the area.

Once completed, the LRT3 line would be approximately 37 kilometres long, with 2 km running underground. Over 2000 parking spots would be offered in 6 stations to assist travellers who choose to Park & Ride. The route would also service 67,000 people every day, with a 6-minute average wait time.
