Prasarana Ridership Jumps 11% in 2025

Ridership on public transportation operated by Prasarana Malaysia Bhd grew 11% last year, averaging 1.31 million passengers daily, according to Prasarana president and group CEO Amir Hamdan.
This marks an improvement from 2024, which saw an average of 1.18 million daily passengers. Dec 31, 2025, recorded the highest daily ridership, with 1.63 million people using Prasarana’s bus and rail services.

Amir said efforts to modernise the bus fleet are progressing. A total of 310 diesel buses have arrived in stages, with procurement expected to conclude by Feb 2026.
The rollout of 250 electric buses is scheduled to start in March this year, with full procurement targeted for completion by March next year.
Infrastructure upgrades are also underway. Prasarana has completed 301 bus stops and 16 pedestrian walkways, while 43 bus stops and 17 walkways remain under construction to improve accessibility, comfort, and the overall passenger experience.
Plans are also in place to introduce two new bus lanes along Jalan Ipoh and Jalan Gombak in phases starting the third quarter of 2026. The existing lane along Jalan Ampang will remain unchanged.

Digital ticketing continues to gain traction. Between July and Dec 2025, 556,618 My50 passes were purchased, reflecting growing public confidence in the system.
At the same briefing, Transport Minister Anthony Loke addressed the Shah Alam LRT line (formerly LRT3). He said the fault-free run (FFR) has yet to begin due to ongoing issues.
A meeting between Prasarana and the main contractor will be held next week to determine the timeline for the FFR. Loke stressed that the FFR must be completed across all 23 trains before trial operations can start.
“Safety must come first,” Loke said, noting that the contractor must take responsibility for the delays. The line’s previously reported opening date of Dec 31 was dependent on ongoing test outcomes.
Loke also confirmed that platform screen doors will be installed at 20 stations this year as part of the project’s first phase, contributing to a total of 68 stations scheduled for upgrades.
