The BYD Dolphin is available in two variants in Malaysia; standard and extended range.

EV sales have reportedly increased significantly this year, according to Jeffrey Gan, managing director of Sime Darby Motors South-East Asia, Hong Kong and Macau retail and distribution.

He also stated that EV sales have been promising in comparison to models powered by internal combustion engines, The Star reported.

This year marked yet another Malaysia's automotive industry milestone, as Chinese automaker BYD launched its second EV just six months after launching the BYD Atto 3.

With a nett selling price of RM99,900, the BYD Dolphin EV is set to become one of Malaysia's most affordable EVs.

According to Gan, the last seven months have been positive, and Sime Darby Motors has been preparing to sell and deliver the latest EV model.
“The BYD Dolphin has been well received and I’m happy to say there have been no issues in terms of production.

“We will start delivering the EVs next month and by year-end, more stock will arrive,” he added.

He mentioned that, as with BYD's previous model, buyers were primarily those who wanted to try out a new technology, while others purchased an EV as a second car. image.png

Approximately 60% of buyers came from the Klang Valley, 20% from the northern region, and the remaining 20% came from the southern region.

He stated that the number of charging stations will increase in tandem with demand.
“The government aims to have 10,000 EV charging stations set up by 2025.

“We are very much aligned with the government’s aspiration for the charging stations.

“For now, every showroom will have a charging station as we work with other industry partners in the EV sector to provide a seamless experience,” he said.

The BYD Dolphin will be available in two variants: standard and extended range. The standard model costs RM99,900, while the extended range model costs RM124,900.
