Indonesia’s Hyundai-LG's EV battery plant Is The Largest In Southeast Asia - Jokowi
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo recently announced that the electric vehicle (EV) battery plant in the West Java town of Karawang will be the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, Jakarta Globe reported.
The factory, which will be operated by the joint venture company Hyundai LG Industry (HLI) Green Power, is scheduled to open next year. It will have a capacity of 30 million battery cells, which is sufficient to create approximately 180,000 electric vehicles.
Widodo emphasised that the construction of the plant is in line with Indonesia's goals to grow into Southeast Asia's largest EV ecosystem and a key participant in the global EV supply chain.
"HLI Green Power will initiate production next year with a capacity of 30 million battery cells, sufficient for the production of approximately 180,000 electric vehicles. This factory is not only the first of its kind but also the largest in Southeast Asia at the moment," the president said during his visit to the factory.
He also suggested that once Indonesia is fully incorporated into the global supply chain, other nations may start to rely on it for their battery cell needs.

He also hinted that once Indonesia is fully integrated into the global supply chain, other countries could rely on it for battery cell supplies.
Approximately 100 Indonesian workers have been sent to South Korea to acquire the necessary skills in EV battery production before being employed at the factory.
