JPJ Confiscates 3,111 Motorcycles For Failing To Meet Safety Standards

From September 1 to Wednesday, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) confiscated 3,111 motorcycles nationwide under the Special Motorcycle Ops for failing to meet road safety standards, according to JPJ senior enforcement director Datuk Lokman Jamaan.

The operation, according to Lokman, was to complete the investigation procedure of various current and past motorcyclist cases, such as having no insurance and no driving licence, changing safety standards and so on.

"JPJ did not seize the motorcycles, but confiscated them in order to prevent them from committing repeated and high-risk offences, and to avoid any serious injuries or fatalities," he told Bernama.
Lokman also added that the motorcycles could be claimed once the paperwork was completed and any offences committed were resolved, in addition to the motorcycles having proper insurance coverage.

“JPJ has, so far, inspected a total of 140,544 motorcycles, and a total of 64,295 notices were issued for various offences,”

“24,459 cases involved no insurance coverage, not having or having expired driving licences (19,928 cases), beating the traffic light (4,061 cases), extreme modifications (2,676 cases), and being underage (259 cases)”, he stated.
