New Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale Pays Tribute to Marque’s Original Supercar

2024 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale arrives as marque's new flagship supercar
Alfa Romeo has finally got a new flagship supercar under its belt, as the Italian marque unveils the all-new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale. Featuring a stunning design, this new flagship supercar is a modern-day homage to the marque’s original supercar model with the same name.

This 21st century iteration of the 33 Stradale comes in either full-ICE or all-electric variants, with the former being powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 that is mated to an 8-speed DCT gearbox to deliver 620 HP. While said mill boasts similar output as the Maserati’s Nettuno V6 engine used on its MC20 flagship supercar, Alfa Romeo claims that this new V6 mill is an evolution from the 2.9-litre V6 powertrain used on the Giulia Quadrifoglio.
While detailed powertrain specs on the EV variant are yet to be disclosed, we’ve been told that the 33 Stradale EV will boast a total system output of 750 HP (559 kW) and a maximum EV range of 450 KM, according to WLTP standards. In spite of its peppier output, both the EV and ICE variants will offer a shared V-max of 333 KM/H, as well as a sub-3-seconds century sprint time.

Similar to its classic twin, the new 33 Stradale is developed at Alfa Romeo’s Balocco development facility in Italy, with its racing pedigree being provided by current Alfa Romeo Formula One driver Valtteri Bottas – who helped fine-tuning the car.
Featuring two driving modes, the standard Strada (Italian for ‘street’) mode allows you to drive the car around cities and towns with minimal engine roar. Meanwhile, the extreme Pista (track) mode adjusts both the pedal sensitivity and stiffness of the damper setup, while the exhaust valves are widely opened to allow unadulterated driving experience in this supercar.

Other mechanical bits include a limited-slip rear differential for the ICE variant, Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, while both models will feature double-arm active suspensions – allowing this low-sitting supercar to go through speed bumps and uneven surfaces with relative ease. Said suspension setup is directly bolted to the H-frame and the car’s carbon fibre monocoque chassis, promising dynamic driving experience at a very minimal weight.

Visually, the new 33 Stradale looks like a literal modern rendition of the classic one, featuring the same curvy silhouette with butterfly-style doors. Mind you, those curves and vents are not for styling per se, as they all provided the car with a minimal drag coefficient rate of 0.375 without any help of active aeros. To shed more excess mass, the supercar’ roof and window frame are made of carbon fibre and aluminium, while the body panels are made of lightweight polycarbonate material.

On board, the 33 Stradale cabin features a sleek design, laden with premium materials like Alcantara and two-tone leather upholstery laced with lightweight carbon and aluminium. The central console is busy with lots of dials and controls for both the driving and auxiliary functionalities, including an aeroplane-style gear lever. Meanwhile the steering wheel is kept simple with aluminium paddle shifters and a digital instrument cluster hiding beneath it.

As its name suggests, only 33 units of the new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale will be produced, with all of them already spoken for. Each of the 33 units will be hand-made by the coachbuilding team at Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, with each one of them fetching no less than $1 million (RM4.61 million). Fortunately for Alfa fans, this won’t be the last Alfa special model, as the marque is planning to release a few more bespoke models in years’ time.
