New Porsche 911 GT3 R Rennsport Is A Modern-Day Successor to The 935

The all-new Porsche 911 GT3 R Rennsport arrives as the marque's most potent track-only machine!
The 7th Porsche Rennsport event is poised to take place this weekend at the Laguna Seca race track in sunny California, where Porsche enthusiasts gather in one place to celebrate the brand’s motorsport heritage. To commemorate this special gathering, Porsche has unveiled the uber-special 911 GT3 R Rennsport – a track-only special model with only 77 units up for grabs globally.
Referred as the modern-day successor to the iconic Porsche 935 race car, the 911 GT3 R Rennsport is based on the current 992-gen 911 GT3 R race car with a redesigned carbon fibre skin over it. As the matter of fact, Porsche claims only the hood and roof part were lifted directly from the GT3 R race car, with other body parts uniquely designed to the 911 GT3 R Rennsport.

The 911 GT3 R Rennsport gets a whole new body kit with wider stance and bigger intakes
As a result, the 911 GT3 stood much wider and more aggressive than the standard GT3 R, featuring new bumper design with enlarged air intakes and racing canards, as well as flared-out wheel arches. For better aerodynamics, Porsche has ditched the conventional side mirrors for camera ones, while its side intakes also have grown bigger.

Its massive retro-style GT rear wing pays homage to the iconic Porsche 935 race car
More impressive is the rear part of the 911 GT3 R Rennsport, as this special model rocks a massive, GT-style rear wing with retro-inspired design. Elsewhere, the tailgate comes with a full-width LED taillight bar with an illuminated Porsche lettering, as well as a pretty substantial rear diffuser that houses the central-mounted dual tailpipes.
Plus, a total of seven exterior colourways and three liveries will be offered to this Rennsport model, with one of the liveries – Rennsport Reunion Design – is said to be inspired from the Lagu Seca’s iconic Corkscrew corner.

Elsewhere, the 911 GT3 R Rennsport rides on special 18-inch BBS centre-locked wheels shod in custom-made Michelin Pilot Sport M S9 racing slicks, paired with massive AP brakes. Meanwhile, it also uses the same damper hardwares consisting of double wishbone suspensions and five-way adjustable racing shocks as the GT3 R race car, but now with a bespoke tuning.

The 911 GT3 R Rennsport is powered by the same 4.2-litre flat-six mill as the GT3 R racecar
As for its powertrain, the 911 GT3 R Rennsport gets the same 4.2-litre 6-cyl naturally-aspirated mill as the 911 GT3 R, albeit with no motorsport restrictions. This enables the flat-six mill to not only output 612 HP, but also revs to 9,400 RPM. Mated to this six-pot mill is a six-speed sequential transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, with its gear ratio has been tweaked to boost the Rennsport’s V-max by 20 KM/H.

As expected, the 911 GT3 R Rennsport’s innards are very bare-boned, in the typical fashion of any track-only race car. For starters, it only comes with a single driver seat, alongside your typical race car equipment like carbon fibre racing yoke, FIA-spec roll cage, and a slew of driving-related controls. Meanwhile, some tech bits like an ambient lighting system and two monitors that replace the side mirrors are also present here, plus a special commemorative plate that denotes the exact unit number.
Thanks to this strict diet regime, the 911 GT3 R Rennsport weighs 10 KG less than the 911 GT3 R race car, tipping the scale at only 1,240 KG.

Only 77 units of the new Porsche 911 GT3 R Rennsport will be made available worldwide...
With only 77 units available up for grabs, the super-special Porsche 911 GT3 R Rennsport commands a sweet US$1.046 million (RM4.9 million approx.) each, which we’d reckon a pretty reasonable price tag for the most potent track machine ever built by the German marque. While Porsche has not mentioned whether all 77 units have already been spoken for or not, we’re more than sure that they will be sold out in no time.
