Proton Issues Recall Statement: X90 - Potential Faulty Grounding Could Cause Fire!
-full_normal.jpg)
On August 22, 2023, a viral video of a Proton X90's rear top plastic cover catching fire went viral. Proton responded on social media, recognising the occurrence and confirming custody of the vehicle. They launched a thorough investigation to discover the cause of the fire.
Proton released a statement today on its social media that the Proton X90 was found to have a problem with the grounding connection to the vehicle's body following a thorough study by a team of Proton and Geely product specialists.

When a constant high current passes through the connecting area, cases of overheating may occur, potentially leading to a thermal incident due to its proximity to soundproofing materials.

To ensure safety, Proton will contact all Proton X90 owners individually through their 3S/4S dealers for a vehicle inspection. If necessary, the service centre will take corrective measures to mitigate occurance of thermal risk. However, the statement did not specify whether the fix would be immediate or require a longer duration to rectify the issue.
Furthermore, Proton and its suppliers have implemented countermeasures on the Proton X90 production line to improve process control and incoming inspections. Proton emphasised that the issue was not caused by the moderate hybrid (48v) battery used in the Proton X90. They highlighted that product quality and customer safety are their top priorities.
Proton X90 owners are recommended to schedule an appointment at their nearest 3S/4S servicing centre or call Proton's helpdesk at 1-800-88-8398 for more information.
