Revamped 2024 Porsche Panamera Set For Nov Debut With 4 PHEV Variants
The upcoming revamped 2024 Porsche Panamera undergoing pre-production tests ahead of its planned
Nov 2023 launch.
After revamping its Cayenne SUV for the 2024 model year, which by the way is now open for bookings locally too, sportscar marque Porsche will give a similar treatment in refreshing its Panamera four-door four-seat GT offering too.
The Stuttgart-based sportscar maker has confirmed a debut date for it later this year, which is 24 Nov during the Icons of Porsche Festival in Dubai, UAE. Furthermore, Porsche also confirmed that there will be greater focus on plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option, with four guises set to form a large part of the new line-up.
The focus on PHEV is unsurprising not just due to the recent wave of electrification driven by stricter carbon emissions laws. In fact, this also stems from the fact that PHEV iterations of the outgoing Panamera model proved highly popular, even accounting for 100% of said model’s sales in certain markets.
For the revised 2024 Panamera, Porsche is putting greater focus on PHEV power, and four variants of which will be available at launch.
For reference, the outgoing Panamera sees its electrified 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo deliver 455 HP in E-Hybrid guise, and 552 HP in S E-Hybrid form. Above which comes the Turbo S E-Hybrid variant that harnesses an electrified 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo instead, which outputs 690 HP.
Aptly, the upcoming refreshed range is set to see output figures raised significantly. Porsche were tight-lipped as to what the new fourth variant could be, but online rumours suggest this be the ‘Turbo E-Hybrid’ that promises at least 650 HP.
Beyond these PHEV choices, Porsche will also offer the revamped Panamera as a pure combustion offering sans electrification using the same 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo. Upgrades to the mill should see output raised from its current 325 HP state to at least 353 HP.
The PHEV variants of the 2024MY Panamera are set to receive bigger batteries and new 11 kW OBC units, which should entail to greater electric-only performance and range.
Like the revamped Cayenne, the refreshed 2024 Porsche Panamera PHEVs are set to receive larger 25.9 kWh batteries replacing the outgoing model’s 17.9 kWh units. This should also boost electric driving range potential. Presently, the PHEV Panamera models can only cover up to 50 KM on electric alone.
Porsche hasn’t given out any indicative figures on this front either. However, it did note that testing efforts for the model has cover 70% more miles on electric power than its predecessor would under the same conditions.
Besides a bump in capacity, the new battery units will also get bolstered with new 11 kW onboard charger (OBC) units too. This marks a big upgrade from the current Panamera PHEV which harnesses either a 3.6 kW or optional 7.4 kW OBC.
Traditional pure-combustion versions will also be available, and its 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo heart is expected to deliver even more pep.
Other upgrades we can expect include a lighter new PDK transmission unit with the PHEV e-motor integrated, as well as an optional active chassis setup that Porsche claims will deliver both great handling and plush comforts.
Speaking of the chassis, base iterations of the refreshed Panamera will also reportedly benefit from the adoption of new two-valve shocks capable of regulating compression and rebound independently. Beyond which, expect the revamped Panamera to also sport Porsche trick new high-performance LED headlights.
Lastly, just like the outgoing model, we can also expect Porsche to continue offering the Panamera in either its traditional four-door fastback or long-roofed Sport Turismo estate/wagon bodystyle choices. Sales, on the other hand, is expected to commence next year.
