Proton Exora MPV Production Ended After 14 Years
After a lengthy 14-year run, the Proton Exora, which captured the hearts of Malaysians on April 15, 2009, has formally ended its production journey. After rolling out its final vehicle, this iconic MPV—which has seen the ups and downs of the country's automotive tides—sparked an emotional outburst from online users.
The Exora, developed under the codename P6-20A and named through a public competition, was first launched in April 2009. After a 14-year run, the MPV is finally being phased out after a total production run of 196,583 units.
The car was initially launched with the reviled naturally-aspirated CamPro CPS engine and became the first Proton to feature a turbocharged engine with the CamPro Charged Fuel Efficiency (CFE) engine introduced in the Exora Bold in 2011, which also saw its production curtain call last week, DSF reported.
According to Paultan, it underwent three different Proton logo sets, numerous facelifts, and price changes between RM56,888 and RM88,998 over time. Its safety features were also excellent; in 2013, the Australasian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP) awarded it a four-star crash safety rating.
The Exora also broke through in terms of innovation. It gave birth to Proton's electric Range Extender prototype in 2010 and provided the framework for further concepts, such as the Pick-up Concept and the Lekiu SUV.
