Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi took to his social media to announce that the Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway (SPE) which was previously known as DUKE Phase 3 would be officially opened to the public on 1st November, 2023.
This expedited highway opening comes after many road users expressed their hope that the SPE could be opened as soon as possible to help alleviate traffic congestion issues in several areas in Kuala Lumpur especially due to the closure of Jalan Sungai Besi, leading to Sg. Besi/Petaling Jaya (across from Fraser Business Park), and the Loke Yew Roundabout.

According to Nanta further, the Public Works Ministry and the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), always prioritises providing road infrastructure facilities for users, but will not compromise on road safety factors therefore has directed the concession holder to ensure that every factor, specification, and facility on this route is fully complete and perfect. This aligns with the spirit of the MYJalan campaign, which focuses on the comfort of road users.

The expressway is already 99 percent complete, but some facilities such as public restrooms, street lighting involving electrical supply, and toll collection systems are still in the final stages of preparation.
SPE would be a 29.8KM dual carriage expressway with four lanes connected by seven (7) intersections. The expressway would traverse north to south of Kuala Lumpur and will serve areas such as Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Wangsa Maju, Setiawangsa, Ampang, the Tun Razak Exchange & Bandar Malaysia development corridor and Kerinchi.

The Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway "SPE" is also expected to improve connectivity with existing expressways and public rail transportation systems such as the KTM Komuter, LRT and MRT lines and provide a holistic transport system to support the development and modernization of Greater Kuala Lumpur.
