Toyota Has Now Produced More Than 300 Million Cars Globally
Toyota has now produced more than 300 million vehicles globally!
Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has reached yet another significant milestone, as the Japanese automotive giant has now produced more than 300 million vehicles globally. This momentous occasion was achieved 88 years after Toyota’s first-ever model – the Toyota G1 Truck – rolled off its production line back in August 1935.
The automaker reported that as of September this year, Toyota has manufactured 180.5 million vehicles at its domestic production facility in Japan, with the remaining 119.6 million vehicles produced at other Toyota facilities scattered across the globe.
The latter includes UMW Toyota Motor’s local assembly (CKD) facility in Malaysia, operating under the Assembly Services Sdn Bhd (ASSB). Based in Shah Alam, Selangor, ASSB operates two production facilities under its arm, with the latest Bukit Raja plant capable of churning out more than 100,000 units annually. Among the Toyota models assembled here include the new Vios (AC100), Yaris, Veloz, Corolla Cross, Corolla sedan, and many more.
By far, the Toyota Corolla is the brand's most popular model, with over 50 million units produced so far
Speaking of Corolla, TMC also claims that its beloved nameplate has accounted for up to one fifth (20%) of its 300-million total production output, with a cumulative global production of 53.4 million as of Sept 2023. This figure covers the whole series of Corolla models, including the aforementioned Corolla Cross SUV and Corolla sedan, plus other body styles like the Corolla Sport hatchback, Corolla Touring Sport wagon, and many more.
Toyota chairman and former president Akio Toyoda
Commenting on this spectacular milestone, Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda said, “I think this number of 300 million stands as proof of all the hard work, every day, of our colleagues at Toyota, our suppliers and dealers, and all the many other stakeholders, as well as all those who came before us. This history did not just start when they built the first car. The founding members repeatedly tried and failed, continually building prototypes, and their efforts led to the Toyota of today.”
With over 80,000 units delivered as of Oct 2023, it seems like UMW Toyota is on course to defend its Malaysia's number 1 non-national carmaker title this year.
Toyota has always been the top-selling non-national carmaker in the Malaysian market for the past few decades or so. Last year, UMWT delivered over 100,000 units to reclaim the title for Malaysia’s number 1 non-national automaker, dethroning close rival Honda in the process. With its total annual sales hitting the 80,000 mark as of Oct this year, it seems like Toyota is on the right track to defend its top-selling title this year.
