First 2 Units of Jaecoo J7 AWD Landed in Malaysia – Launch Imminent?
The first 2 units of the Jaecoo J7 AWD have landed in Malaysia ahead of its market entry later in 2024.
The local automotive scene is set to welcome a new contender from China, as Chery’s new sub-brand Jaecoo is coming into Malaysia later in 2024. Ahead of its official market entry, the Chinese marque has welcomed the arrival of the first two units of the right-hand drive (RHD) Jaecoo J7 AWD SUVs today.
Previewed earlier this year at the Chery International User Summit (CIUS) 2023, these two units of the J7 are poised to undergo countless road testings and evaluation tests in order to meet the high standards of performance and safety. More importantly, the same two units will also be used in a series of exclusive previews for local media, as well as potential dealers and investors.

A little tour on the upcoming Jaecoo J7, this C-segment SUV measures 4,500 MM long, 1,865 MM wide, 1,680 MM tall, with a wheelbase of 2,650 MM. Featuring a chiselled boxy SUB body style with tons of modern design touches, the Jaecoo 7 is poised to compete against the likes of Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5 in the local C-SUV segment.
Moving inside the J7, this Chinese C-SUV is equipped with several tech bits and modern creature comforts that helps to elevate its overall cabin design. For the international market, the J7’s cabin is laced with amenities like a vertically-oriented 14.8-inch central infotainment display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, a fully digital instrument cluster, ventilated and powered front seats, wireless charging pad, and many more.
Though no exact specifications were shared on the Malaysian-bound J7, its Chinese counterpart – also known as the Chery Tansuo 06 – is offered in either a fully-ICE or a petrol plug-in hybrid (PHEV) guise. Focusing on the former for now, the J7 gets a 1.6-litre 4-cyl turbocharged mill that is mated to a seven-speed DCT to deliver 186 PS and 275 NM.
While these two units arrived in Malaysia feature an all-wheel drive (AWD) setup, the J7 is also offered with an FWD option for other international markets.
In preparation for its official market entry later in 2024, Jaecoo Malaysia has set up its official Facebook page, with its official website for Malaysia set to go online later in Jan 2024. More importantly, the firm has also initiated their dealer recruitment programme to get ready for the first model introduction.
The Jaecoo J7 is set to debut into our local market later in Q2 of 2024
The much-anticipated Jaecoo J7 SUV is poised to make its market entry later this year, with our previous report indicating that this new sub-brand will be formally launched in the second quarter of 2024. Aside from Jaecoo, Chery International is also planning to introduce its Exeed luxury sub-brand into our local market, though that might take some time later in 2025.
