New McLaren GTS Debuts As A Successor to The GT

The all-new McLaren GTS arrives as the direct successor to the GT supercar
There’s a new McLaren in town, and it is simply called the GTS – a direct replacement for the ongoing McLaren GT. Featuring more power and less weight, the GTS offers a little more aggression and performance without sacrificing both the daily drivability and practicality its predecessor is well-known for.
For starters, McLaren engineers have tweaked the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 to now deliver 626 HP – about 14 HP more than the current GT model. Additionally, the GTS has also been put on a diet, which means the supercar now weighs about 10 KG less than its predecessor, tipping the scale at 1,519 KG.

As a result, the GTS delivers what McLaren claims to be the ‘best-in-class power-to-weight ratio’ of 412 HP per tonne (1,000 KG), which is more impressive than the Porsche 911 Turbo S’ 396 HP per tonne figure. More importantly, said improvement also garners this ‘daily-drivable’ supercar a splendid 0-100 KM/H sprint finish of 3.1 seconds – 0.1 seconds faster than the GT.

On the mechanical side, McLaren has paired the GTS’ stellar carbon fibre monocoque chassis with a new intelligent adaptive suspension system with an optional front axle lift system. While the former provides a perfect balance between comfort and performance, the latter sees the GTS able to lift its ground clearance to 130 MM, with the whole process taking only four seconds to complete.
Said new damper setup is then mated to an improved hydraulic power steering system that provides a class-leading driving feel compared to the intricate electric power steering (EPS) used on many supercars nowadays. Similar to before, this steering system provides some extra assistance when the GTS manoeuvres at lower speeds, granting drivers a better feel and quicker response when driving.

Aside from that, nothing much else has changed for the GTS on the aesthetic front, with the car looking pretty identical to its predecessor. Some notable differences here are the new exterior colour options, including Lava Grey, as well as the new GTS Turbine alloy wheels this supercar rides on. On board, the new GTS still comes with the same 7-inch infotainment display as the GT model, while there are several new trim and material options available.
Orders for the new McLaren GTS have been officially opened, with deliveries targeted to commence some time later in 2024. As for now, McLaren has yet to reveal the asking price for its latest ‘daily-drivable’ supercar, but we can expect them to fetch slightly higher than the current GT’s asking price of £167,560 (RM996,158).
