Renault Announces Plan To Reduce Production Costs

The iconic Renault 5 will be reborn in the 21st century as an all-electric hot hatch, according to the German automaker.

Renault revealed its bold plan on Thursday to use digital and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to cut production costs for its cars by up to 50% over the next four years, Bloomberg reported. The strategic move is intended to improve the company's efficiency and competitiveness in the quickly changing automotive sector.

The German automaker aims to reduce production costs per vehicle by 30% for internal combustion vehicles and by an even more significant 50% for electric vehicles between now and 2027. The automaker also wants to reduce the time it takes to develop a vehicle from three years to just two.

Renault has already integrated more than 300 AI applications to perform tasks like improving quality control and tracking automotive parts like tires. By 2025, the company hopes to have 3,000 AI applications, demonstrating its dedication to using technology to enhance many facets of its business processes.

The company announced a 400 million euro investment to produce four new models at its Bursa site in Turkey as part of its larger manufacturing strategy. One of the projects being developed with this investment is the Duster, a new, affordable SUV. The goal is to turn the Bursa plant into a major international export hub that serves not only Europe but also other nations.

Renault's comprehensive plan reflects the automotive industry's recognition of the critical role that digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI) play in achieving cost efficiencies, accelerating development cycles, and remaining competitive in a volatile market.
