MyJPJ App Driver’s License Renewal Option Starts 1 Feb With RM5 Rebate
Starting next month, Malaysian drivers can conveniently renew their driving licence (LMM) online (e-LLM) using the MyJPJ mobile application, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke. The renewal process for both driver's licences and road taxes will be enabled in stages, initially available exclusively to Malaysians.
Loke also announced a RM5 rebate for those opting for the e-LMM to renew their licence, encouraging its use. This rebate will be applicable throughout the year from Feb 1, 2024, to Dec 31, 2024.
Furthermore, the public can now share their e-LMM or digital road tax through a new feature in the MyJPJ app. This allows users to share licences with family, friends, or other authorised parties.
The digitization of road tax, implemented Feb last year, eliminates the need for physical copies on vehicle windshields. Instead, drivers can show or screenshot their road tax data when requested by authorities. The MyJPJ app also grants access to a motorist's driving licence, enabling various functions, including sharing online data with relevant parties.
Despite the convenience offered by the MyJPJ app, a survey by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) also indicates that only 7.5 million people have embraced the digital platform. While not mandatory, the government hopes that through the joint efforts of the Transport Ministry and JPJ, full public support for a digitised system can be achieved.
