New Slidable And Foldable LG Automotive Displays Heading To CES 2024

LG Display is set to showcase new slidable and foldable automotive display tech at CES 2024 this month.
Korean electronics giant LG will see its LG Display division headline the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show 2024 (CES 2024) in Las Vegas this month with a slew of it new and next generation automotive display tech.
Presently, the company is keeping technical details under wraps. Instead, the firm notes that showgoers and observers can expect “slidable and foldable OLEDs installed in the back of seats that can be hidden away or extended for use on demand.”
From the two images released by the company ahead of which, it shows a series of rear seat entertainment systems with screens. The latter appears to have the ability to retract into the ceiling – or roofline – when not in use.
The same interior mock up pictured also shows a massive freestanding display module present. This combines both the digital instrument and infotainment displays seamlessly into one single unit. There’s also a lower display visible, along with a console-mounted display for rear seat passengers.

A slew of other innovations will be demonstrated too including "Switchable Privacy Mode", Advanced This OLED, and more, according to LG Display.
The company adds that it will showcase an Advanced Thin OLED that “utilises glass substrates to offer the core strength of automotive OLED at a more competitive price point.” On show too is LG’s Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon technology, which allows for larger and higher-resolution LCD displays.
Besides that, LG will also use its CES 2024 showcase to introduce a “Switchable Privacy Mode”. This is designed to prevent driver distraction by automatically adjusting the viewing angle of the front passenger screen, meaning drivers won’t be able to watch movies or play games on this display.
The big trend of the this year’s CES show is passenger displays, meaning LG won’t be the only company with slidable screens on show. A number of new and upcoming models offer them already including the Audi Q6 e-tron, and Porsche Cayenne.
