Report: Chery Set to Develop New Mid-Size Pick-Up Truck

Besides SUVs and crossovers, Chery is also developing a new mid-size pick-up truck for selected emerging markets around the world.
Chery has kicked off 2024 on a high note, as the Chinese automaker is set to expand its venture into more international markets beyond the Asian continent. Known for their SUVs, it appears that the firm is in the midst of developing a new kind of product to further penetrate these new markets.
As reported by CarScoops, Chery is currently developing a new mid-size pick-up truck model, set to penetrate this largely profitable vehicle segment in selected markets, including South America, Asia-Pacific, as well as Australia. This new pick-up truck model is set to be launched under the Chery name in the Land Down Under, while arriving in other markets under the ‘Karry’ sub-brand.

Besides providing us with this intel, folks at CarScoops have also put up several rendered images of this upcoming pick-up truck from Chery. Featuring a diamond-studded front face, you can see that the artist has drawn some inspiration from some existing Chery models, notably the Omoda 5.
While its glitzy front face looks very radical for a pick-up truck’s standard, the rest of the car boasts typical truck design traits, featuring a squared-up roofline with a flatbed, flared-out wheel arches, and a pair of roof rails. Also important to note is the rather sizable wheels this illustrated pick-up truck rides on, possibly the artist’s way to depict that this could be a more road-biased, lifestyle-oriented pick-up truck.

Moving on to the interior, said artist’s impression has depicted the Chery pick-up truck to boast similar cabin design as their SUV counterparts, brimmed with modern creature comforts. Included here is the front cockpit layout, which features a dual 10.25-inch screen setup, a three-spoke steering wheel, plus a floating central console that houses the gear shifter and wireless charger – all looking like they came straight out of the Omoda 5.
Besides its alleged design, CarScoops has also laid out the mechanical details pertaining to this new pick-up truck. Set to underpin a dedicated body-on-frame chassis, Chery’s new pick-up truck is set to arrive in several powertrain setups, including a pure ICE model, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), as well as a dedicated EV variant.

The EV version of this new pick-up truck will reportedly use the same electric powertrain setup as the new Exeed Sterra ES mid-size saloon
For the fully-electric version, the truck will reportedly borrow its EV components from the upcoming Exeed Sterra ES mid-size saloon, featuring a dual-motor AWD setup capable of outputting 473 HP (353 kW). As for the ICE-based models, the PHEV will reportedly borrow Jetour Traveller’s 1.5-litre turbocharged PHEV setup, while the fully-ICED model will feature a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit instead.

Set to go against the likes of the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan Navara, Mazda BT-50, and many more mid-size trucks, the upcoming Chery pick-up truck is set to go on sale later in 2025. Judging by the market target set by Chery for this model, the chance of seeing this pick-up truck in our market is very likely.
