The smart #3, the coupe SUV flavour of the smart #1, is set to enter the Malaysian market in the second half of 2024. Ahead of which, the model has achieved a 5-star crash test score from the European New Car Safety Assessment Association (Euro NCAP).
The smart #3 met Euro NCAP's stringent 2023 safety regulations by excelling in adult (90%), child (86%), vulnerable road user (84%), and auxiliary safety (85%). Notably, the smart #3 leads the way in overall score and adult protection among small cars.

Furthermore, the Euro NCAP also earmarked the smart #3 for having the best safety assistance performance among models tested in 2023.
Building on the success of the smart #1, which received 5-star ratings from both Euro NCAP and the China New Car Assessment Programme (C-NCAP), the smart brand demonstrates its unwavering commitment to product safety by upholding high quality standards.

Euro NCAP's 2023 regulations establish stringent testing standards that assess not only a vehicle's safety system, but also its compatibility with other vehicles. In frontal collision, frontal offset collision, and side rigid pillar impact tests, the smart #3 performed admirably.
According to smart, the overall body structure of smart #3 was designed to meet all of the world's stringent safety standards. The A-pillar, B-pillar, and centre tunnel are made of 19% hot-formed steel and 74% high-strength steel, which significantly increases torsional rigidity and strength.

This combination allows the smart #3 to withstand external impacts, providing strong safety protection for occupants while minimising damage to other vehicles.
In terms of battery safety, the smart #3 uses non-thermal propagation (NTP) technology to prevent and control non-thermal propagation. This improves battery safety through a variety of safeguards, including 360° prevention, automatic warning, active cooling, passive thermal insulation, fast exhaust, and an intelligent shut-off.

Aside from passive defence, smart also focuses on active safety protection. In the Euro NCAP tests, the #3 demonstrated its active safety prowess by excelling in safety assistance, displaying exceptional active and predictive performance.
Furthermore, the automatic emergency braking system (AEB) received perfect scores in tests simulating typical urban traffic scenarios, demonstrating the vehicle's quick response to emergencies and ability to avoid or mitigate collision severity.
