In a statement published on its official Facebook page, Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd confirmed the incident and stated that it happened at approximately 10.52am. The bus was carrying passengers on Route 303 between Taman Mulia Jaya and Lebuh Ampang, it said.

“In the incident, the bus captain noticed smoke coming from the back of the bus before he stopped the vehicle and asked passengers to disembark and tried to control the flames from spreading by using the fire extinguisher on the bus,”  read the statement.

“The bus captain and passengers did not suffer any injuries and there was no reported damage to public property. The bus was towed to the depot at 12.08pm.”

Rapid Bus expressed regret to the passengers who were impacted by the incident and said that it would work with the police to conduct a thorough investigation into what caused the fire.

Following the deployment of six personnel, the operations commander of Keramat Fire and Rescue Station, Mohd Fabell Md Yasin, reported that 50% of the bus's rear had been damaged by the fire.

At 11:07 a.m., the fire was completely put out. "We're looking into what caused the fire," he added.
