Toyota Restarts Vehicle Plants In Japan Today

Following the devastating earthquake that struck parts of Japan, Toyota Motor Corporation has announced that it will resume plant operations there starting today (January 8), Reuters reported.

Since many of its local suppliers and their affiliates were impacted by the earthquake, the company stated, it will instead use parts that are in stock outside of the affected areas.

Given that the Noto region is still experiencing aftershocks, Toyota said that it would like to make a separate decision regarding operations after January 15.

The restoration of the area and the safety of those involved will continue to be given top priority while a thorough assessment of the current circumstances is conducted.
Toyota president Koji Sato stated on Friday that the company was attempting to comprehend the state of the supply chain.

About 80 percent of the 200 businesses that owned plants in the earthquake-affected areas had either started up again or planned to do so by Friday, according to Industry Minister Ken Saito.

The Noto peninsula, which is located on the northwest coast of this place, was struck by an earthquake that has left more than 200 people missing and more than 100 confirmed dead.
