GAC Unveils Its 1200HP AION Hyper SSR Supercar - Delivery To Begin October 2023

GAC, China’s fifth largest vehicle manufacturer, recently unveiled its flagship supercar and guess what, it's all electric. The supercar would be produced through its subsidiary AION which is aimed to target the premium, high-end market segment.
The supercar, aptly named AION Hyper SSR, was a collaborative result of GAC design teams from Los Angeles, Milan, Shanghai, and Guangzhou Headquarters with 16 years of technical knowledge with 3 years of design process put into it, explained Fan Zhang, VP of GAC R&D and the head of design.

The AION Hyper SSR which is expected to start delivering orders in 2023 would be China’s first production all-electric supercar capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in just 1.9 seconds thanks to its PMSM High-Performance Dual E-Motor powered by High-Energy-Density NCM lithium-ion Traction Battery. The AION Hyper SSR is said to produce 12,000Nm of peak torque and 1,200 HP.
Pontus Fontaeus, Executive Design Director of GAC Advanced Design Los Angeles added that “The stunning and ultra-modern Hyper SSR is creating a significant milestone as the first and a new breed of the sustainable electric sports car.

Looking at the exterior, the AION Hyper SSR unmistakably screams pure sports car with its balanced and sleek design with an overall low ride stance. The AION Hyper SSR which takes inspiration from GAC’s ENO.146 concept car has a record breaking cd value of just 0.146. The overall exterior lines are kept simple while bringing out its distinctive feature dubbed “The Blade”. The AION Hyper SSR is 4538mm in length, 1988mm width and 1238mm high.
The AION Hyper SSR will come with thin distinctive LED DRL which is said offers the owner a “animated” welcome as they approach the car while at the rear, linear “Eagle Wing” style light blades swoopes down to the diffuser mimicking the F1 cars. It will also feature a retractable spoiler that increases downforce for vehicle stability at high speed.

The AION Hyper SSR’s body is made of high-strength carbon fibre made using an aviation grade forming process achieving a remarkable 1.72 light weight index. The frameless “Sky” doors open upwards automatically symbolising that this is truly a special automobile. The AION Hyper SSR would come standard with turbine-inspired wheels with sculpted carbon inserts to provide more contrast in spoke design.
Step inside and you would be greeted by an exoskeleton architecture concept featuring stacked bi-level instrument panels emphasising AION Hyper SSR’s lightness and focus towards the driver. Some vehicle controls are integrated into the exposed interior tubular structures to further highlight the technical focus of the Hyper SSR.

In view of keeping the interior design clean, AION Hyper SSR ditched all forms of stalks and integrated all vehicle control into the hexagonal steering wheel. Drivers would also feel pampered in the lightweight seats designed to provide maximum support for spirited driving and yet be comfortable in daily use.
The AION Hyper SSR will be made standard featuring a 14.6 inch centre display and a 8.8” digital instrument cluster. All material used in the AION Hyper SSR’s interior is of sustainable and recyclable origin free of any animal products.

Now for the most important detail, its price. The AION Hyper SSR would be sold in two variants. The Aion Hyper SSR costs approximately USD 182,000 (RM830,000) and the SSR Ultimate at USD239,000 (RM1,092,000) in China. All AION Hyper SSR deliveries will begin October 2023.
