BMW iX Updated in Malaysia – xDrive40 Dropped, 22 kW OBC, Now From RM465K
BMW Group Malaysia has updated the iX EV SUV lineup, featuring several new standard equipment.
BMW Group Malaysia has updated the lineup of its best-selling EV model, the BMW iX, for the 2024 model year (2024 MY) update. This new update sees the iX dropping its xDrive40 standard variant while gaining several new standard equipment.
The updated iX xDrive50 Sport model now comes standard with a 22 kW AC charging capability
With the xDrive40 variant being dropped, the mid-spec xDrive50 Sport variant now becomes the baseline trim level for the iX model starting this year. As part of its annual equipment update, the iX xDrive50 Sport now comes standard with the adaptive air suspension setup and a 22 kW AC charging capability.
This new OBC rate allows the iX’s 115-kWh battery pack to be fully charged in just five hours and 30 minutes instead of 11 hours at the slower 11 kW AC rate. The DCFC rate, however, remains unchanged at 195 kW, which allows the pack to go from 0-80% in 35 minutes. Once fully charged, this sizable battery pack grants the iX xDrive50 Sport a maximum WLTP range of 630 KM.
The top-spec iX M60, however, sees no significant changes, as both the 22 kW OBC and air suspension setup already came standard with this M-badged EV SUV.
The 2024 MY update continues as we get inside the iX EV SUV, as the cabin now comes equipped with the new BMW OS 8.5 for its BMW Curved Display infotainment system. Also improved here is the Comfort Access function, which now supports Digital Key Plus, which allows owners to unlock their iX using a dedicated smartphone app.
Specifically for the iX xDrive50 Sport variant, the model also gets the iX M60’s Interior Design Atelier cabin trim with highlight components and Sensatec leather dashboard and accents, as well as the Parking Assistant Professional package as standard. This upgraded version of the standard Parking Assist Plus suite adds several new functions, like the assisted parallel and perpendicular parking assists, as well as the Manoeuvring Assistant.
Unfortunately, the updated iX also drops several key equipment to make it more affordable than before. Key omissions include the Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof for both variants, while the M60 drops the ventilated seats and swaps the old Bowers & Wilkins sound system for the less premium Harman Kardon ones.
Unfortunately, the 2024 MY also saw the iX xDrive50 Sport losing its Laserlight headlights and the Titanium Bronze M exterior trim
Specific omissions for the xDrive50 Sport model include the Laserlight headlights, which have been replaced by standard LED units, the Titanium Bronze M exterior trim, as well as the Clear & Bold interior applications.
Fortunately, both cars’ powertrain specs remain unchanged as before. The updated iX xDrive50 Sport still gets the same dual-motor AWD setup rated at 516 HP (385 kW) and 765 NM as before, allowing a century sprint finish of only 4.6 seconds.
Meanwhile, the manic iX M60 retains its dual-motor AWD setup rated at 610 HP and 1,100 NM, which sees 0-100 KM/H sprints despatched in just 3.8 seconds. Due to its peppier motor setup, the iX M60 sacrificed some of its range, with its WLTP figure capped at only 566 KM.
By far the biggest change these two models boast is in terms of pricing. As the new baseline variant for the iX model in Malaysia, the updated 2024 BMW iX xDrive50 Sport now starts at RM465,800 on-the-road – a significant decrease of RM62,630 compared to its previous price. The iX M60 also dropped by RM32,630 for the 2024 MY, now tagged at RM579,800 on-the-road.
Opting for the additional BMW Service & Repair Inclusive (BSRI) with extended warranty and service package will add a sum of RM33,200 on top of the cars’ standard prices.
