BMW Group Malaysia marked the 20th anniversary of the BMW Regional Parts Distribution Centre in Malaysia located in the Free Industrial Zone of the Senai International Airport, Johor Bahru.
Earlier today, BMW Group Malaysia marked the 20th anniversary of the BMW Group Regional Parts Distribution Centre in Malaysia. Located in the Free Industrial Zone of the Senai International Airport, Johor Bahru, the milestone was made more significant by the facility’s landmark expansion revealed today.
Said expansion introduces several notable improvements, including a purpose-built High Voltage (HV) Battery Storage Area and a modern Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) racking system. The facility’s two-story configuration also provides opportunities for future expansion, whilst the integration of a solar panel roof supports BMW Group's broader sustainability initiatives.
The expansion noted not only strengthens the group’s logistical capabilities, it also positions the facility to support the region’s evolving automotive landscape. This continued investments in Malaysia also ensures it remains at the forefront of the group’s operational excellence, thus reinforcing the country’s pivotal role in the Group’s success for years to come.

The facility has been expanded from 45,000 squares metres originally to 65,000 square metres. Included here too is the adoption of a slew of new technologies and tools to boost its management efficiency.
“This facility is more than an operational hub; it symbolises the BMW Group’s trust in our ecosystem while reinforcing Malaysia's role as an integral part of its Asia Pacific supply chain,” said Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, CEO of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).
Datuk Sikh was present at the facility’s expansion ceremony earlier today alongside BMW Group Malaysia’s MD Benjamin Nagel. “Since the beginning, the facility and its capabilities has stood as a symbol of operational excellence, having evolved into a state-of-the-art facility that is recognised regionally and globally,” added Nagel in his opening remarks today.
The BMW Group Regional Parts Distribution Centre in Malaysia was first established at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) in Gelang Patah in 2004. It was then relocated to its current state-of-the-art facility back in 2016 where it stands as one of the largest BMW facilities of its kind in the region.

Since 2016, the facility has sustained growth in its annual turnover that peaked at value of EUR 277 million last year.
In its current form, the facility originally spanned 45,000 square metres of warehouse space. With the completion of its new expansion, the facility now spans a remarkable 65,000 square metres.
Since its 2016 relocation, the BMW Group Regional Parts Distribution Centre demonstrated sustained growth in its annual turnover, growing its business capabilities from EUR 141 million in 2017 to EUR 277 million in 2023. This marks growth of over 97% and almost double from when the facility’s operations first commenced.
Underscoring its financial milestones, the facility handles over 100,000 lines of inventory in and out monthly, maintaining around 90% service level to over 20 markets in the region. Altogether, the facility manages on stock nearly 52,000-part numbers, with roughly 30 of which being High Voltage Batteries.

Presently, this facility caters to over 20 markets in the region with an impressive service level of around 90%.
It also maintains an on-time picking and packing rate of over 99%, as well as a rate of 99.5% on items delivered in excellent condition. Employed here too are 15 40-foot container units for BMW Group’s sea freight markets that are dispatched weekly, while 33,000 cubic metres of airfreight delivery are made each week.
Locally, the facility manages 42 trucks for outbound deliveries to Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand each week.
