BYD Seal EV Charts Over 800 Bookings in Just 2 Days

The BYD Seal EV has garnered over 800 bookings in just two days after making its local debut!
The arrival of the BYD Seal EV into the Malaysian market has garnered an overwhelming reception among EV enthusiasts and many Malaysians alike. The rave for this EV saloon is very high, so much so that Sime Darby Motors (SDM) reported that the BYD Seal has garnered over 800 bookings in the first two days since its debut last week.

To celebrate this overwhelming reception, BYD has decided to extend the Seal EV's early-bird promo package to 300 additional buyers.
As a way to say thank you for this overwhelming reception by Malaysians, BYD Malaysia has decided to extend the early-bird special package to 300 additional buyers, which includes a complimentary wallbox charger and RM800 EV charging credit for ChargEV or Gentari.

As a refresher, the Malaysian-spec BYD Seal arrives in two variants, namely the Premium RWD and the Performance AWD. With the baseline Dynamic variant dropped for our market, the mid-spec Premium RWD model serves as the entry-level model for the Seal in Malaysia, priced at RM179,800 on-the-road. Meanwhile, the range-topping Performance AWD is tagged slightly higher at RM199,800.

While both models are juiced by the same 82.5-kWh LFP ‘Blade’ battery pack, the Premium RWD model gets a single, rear-mounted (RWD) electric motor setup rated at 308 HP (230 kW) and 360 NM. Century sprint time reads at a decent 5.9 seconds, while the sizable battery pack allows for a decent 570 KM of maximum WLTP range.
The top-spec Performance AWD model, on the other hand, gets a peppier, dual-motor AWD setup rated at 523 HP (390 kW) and 670 NM, allowing a faster 0-100 KM/H sprint time of only 3.8 seconds. Due to its peppier motor setup, the Performance AWD model sacrifices some of its maximum range, with its WLTP figure reading lower at 520 KM.

The BYD Seal will face threats from the likes of the Tesla Model 3 (left), as well as the upcoming GWM Ora 07 (right) in the local EV saloon market segment.
For the Malaysian market, the BYD Seal’s main rival is the burgeoning Tesla Model 3, which is priced at RM189,000 for the baseline Standard Range model and RM218,000 for the Long Range model. Besides the Seal and Model 3, the local EV saloon market will also welcome yet another Chinese contender, in the form of the GWM Ora 07, later in March this year.
