GWM Ora 07 & Tank 300 Arrived In Malaysia – Launch Imminent?
The first batch of the upcoming GWM Ora 07 EV and Tank 300 SUV have arrived in Malaysia!
2024 is going to be a big year for Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia, as the marque is lining up to launch several new products into our market, including the Ora 07 EV and the Tank 300 SUV. In preparation for their launch, the first batch of both the Ora 07 and Tank 300 recently landed in Malaysia.
The upcoming GWM Ora 07 is set to go against the likes of Tesla Model 3 and the upcoming BYD Seal
Starting off with the Ora 07, this midsize EV saloon will be GWM Malaysia’s second all-electric offering, alongside the Ora Good Cat. Upon its launch, this quirky-looking EV saloon will face fierce competition from fellow Chinese EV saloons like the Tesla Model 3 and the upcoming BYD Seal.
As per our previous report, a close source from GWM Malaysia informed us that the Ora 07 will arrive in two variants, namely the baseline ‘Long Range’ and the range-topping ‘Performance’. Both juiced by the same 83.5-kWh LFP battery pack, the single-motor Long Range model boasts a total system output of 204 PS and 340 NM, plus a respectable 600 KM WLTP range.
Meanwhile, the dual-motor Performance’s 408 PS and 680 NM output allow the car to go from 0 to 100 KM/H in just 4.3 seconds, but at the expense of its WLTP range, which has been cut short to 495 KM.
The GWM Ora 07 is set to make its local debut any time in Q1 this year
With its first batch already arriving, the GWM Ora 07 will be the first one to make its debut, set to take place at any time in Q1 2024. Although GWM Malaysia has yet to reveal any indication regarding the Ora 07’s pricing, we can expect this EV saloon to be tagged within the same range as the Tesla Model 3, which is around the RM180,000 to RM220,000 region.
The GWM Tank 300 will be the first model under the Tank sub-brand to debut in Malaysia
Moving on to the GWM Tank 300, this rugged 4x4 SUV will be the first model under the Tank sub-brand to make its debut in our market. For those who are not familiar with Tank, the marque is positioned as a slightly premium arm for GWM, known for producing several luxury, off-road-biased SUV models.
Positioned as the smallest model in the marque’s lineup, the Tank 300 harnesses a 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbocharged petrol mill under its hood. Outputting a respectable 227 PS and 397 NM, the mill is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission that helps to send power to all four wheels (AWD).
Besides the full-ICE version, the Tank 300 also comes with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant, and it adopts the same Hi4-T PHEV setup as the Tank 400 and Tank 500 models. This powertrain package adopts a sizable 37.1 kWh battery pack that delivers a claimed EV range of up to 105 KM (CLTC).
Don't let its rough facade fooled you, the Tank 300 is a pretty luxurious and posh SUV on the inside!
Given how the model is specced out in fellow RHD markets like Australia, we can expect the Malaysian-bound Tank 300 to be quite a premium offering, laden with all the creature comforts inside out. And, typical of alternative Chinese fighters as such, we can also perhaps expect the Tank 300 to command competitive prices.
As for its debut, GWM Malaysia has yet to specify the date, but it will take place at any time this year. With the first batch of the Tank 300 already here, we can expect it to be launched very soon.
So folks, which of these two upcoming GWM models are you looking forward to the most? As always, don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments down below…
