In a bid to combat the sale of 'guarantee pass' packages or ‘lesen terbang’, JPJ has announced the official introduction of the electronic driving test system.

The Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ) has announced the official introduction of the electronic driving test system (eTesting) in a bid to combat the sale of 'guarantee pass' packages, or ‘lesen terbang’ endemic. As revealed by the Minister of Transport YB Anthony Loke, this program will be carried out via a pilot project in three selected driving institutes across the nation later in April this year.

This new system allows learner drivers to partake in the driving test without the presence of a JPJ officer sitting next to them. Instead, all evaluations for the test will be conducted in real-time remotely from a control room, using multiple cameras and sensors around the test track.

For the pilot project, the eTesting system will be used for practical tests such as the slope test, three-point turn, reverse parking, parallel parking, and many more. This digitally-monitored system also allows students to review their tests from the saved live video feed, should they fail.

Loke further added that this system also allows for more candidates to be tested at the same time, with the system capable of handling up to 150 tests daily. Plus, the eTesting system won’t be straight-up mandatory, as students will still be given the option to pick regular testing instead of this automated system.

More importantly, the new eTesting system also allows candidates to make a second attempt at each failed test element on the same day without incurring the additional cost of taking the whole test again. As for the repeat test, the candidate only needs to do that for failed elements without having to repeat the entire test element.

“Test candidates who are tested using the system will be given priority in the test reservation list. In addition, a RM10 rebate is also given for the issuance of a trial licence,” Loke said.
