Malaysians Entering Singapore By Vehicle Can Use QR Code To Clear Immigration

Travellers arriving and departing Singapore through the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints will only need to scan a single QR code, which they can generate ahead of time and can be used by all people in a vehicle, according to the nation's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).
Overall wait times, which can often last hours during peak periods when workers are attempting to cross the border from Malaysia, should be reduced by about 30% if the majority of car travellers use the QR code for clearance, according to the authority.

How do you generate the QR code? First, download the MyICA mobile application and enter your passport information.
Foreign visitors who have previously visited Singapore can use the MyICA app's built-in camera to scan the Machine-Readable Zone (MRZ) of their passport's biodata page, which will automatically populate their passport information.
The MRZ is made up of two or three rows of characters at the bottom of the passport biodata page.
However, if you are visiting Singapore for the first time or with a different passport than your previous visit, you must present your physical passport for immigration clearance. Following that, you can use the QR codes for immigration clearance on future trips.

According to the ICA, the generated QR codes are encrypted and can only be retrieved and decrypted by the relevant authorities. Even after this program is implemented, travelers still have the choice to show ICA officials their actual passports at the checkpoint counter.
