RM50Mil Approved To Extend Special Bus Lane, Purchase Of DRT Vans
With an investment of RM50 million, Malaysia plans to improve public transportation in the Klang Valley by acquiring 100 demand response transit vans and extending special bus lanes.
The initiative was announced by the Chairperson of the Cabinet Committee on Road Safety and Traffic Congestion, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who emphasized the benefits of the special bus lanes that were put in place in July.
Commencing in September, this action is anticipated to greatly reduce traffic congestion and improve the effectiveness of public transportation in the area.
Additionally, the program supports the overarching objective of encouraging the use of public transportation rather than private vehicles, lowering carbon emissions, and promoting environmental sustainability.
The Deputy Prime Minister's announcement aligns with plans to implement an open payment system for Rapid KL buses, in addition to physical infrastructure improvements. By the end of the year, the system's tender process should be completed, giving commuters more flexibility and convenience in their daily lives.
In addition, 344 new bus stops and more than 7,000 metres of covered walkways spanning seven Klang Valley local authorities will be built as part of the investment. These kinds of infrastructural advancements have the potential to boost ridership by improving user comfort and accessibility of public transportation.
The implementation of a contraflow lane connecting the Sungai Besi toll road and the Smart Tunnel is an additional demonstration of the government's proactive measures to alleviate traffic congestion and improve road safety.
