VW ID.Buzz Gains Hotter GTX Guise With 335 HP Dual-Motor Setup
The ID.Buzz GTX announced today is a sportier and peppier flavour of the retro-styled EV van from VW.
German automaker Volkswagen recently introduced hot and peppy GTX-badged versions of its ID.3 and ID.7 Tourer EV models. Now, the firm appears to have kept the momentum going by revealing a similar treatment for its ID.Buzz model.
The new ID.Buzz GTX pictured is what resulted, and it has both the style and speed to match its new status as a sporty performance flagship in its range. Much of its newfound speed stems from its new dual-motor setup, which also makes it the only bi-motor ID.Buzz variant to be developed.
The GTX guise is the only bi-motor variant of the ID.Buzz developed thus far. It can he had in both SWB and LWB forms that comes with their respective 79 kWh and 86 kWh battery packs.
Altogether, the ID.Buzz GTX's dual-motor setup boasts 335 HP, thus enabling to despatch 0-100 KM/H in just 6.5 secs!
Underneath, the ID.Buzz GTX uses the same 282 HP rear motor derived from the ID.7 GTX estate. This is paired with a 108 HP front motor. Altogether, the combined total output now reads at 335 HP, thus enabling this EV van to complete the 0-100 KM/H sprint in just 6.5 seconds.
Said acceleration time not only sees the ID.Buzz GTX nearly match the latest face-lifted Golf GTI Mk.8.5 hot hatch’s time of 6.3 seconds, it also applies to both the standard- (SWB) and long-wheel-base (LWB) versions of the model, which also packs a larger – heavier – battery pack.
Two-tone paintjob pictured is an exclusive touch to the GTX-badged ID-Buzz, as are its 19- and 21-inch wheel options, and gloss black mirror caps.
VW didn’t disclose range figures for the ID.Buzz GTX, but expect them to be lower than the 423 KM WLTP figure touted by the ID.Buzz Pro SWB. Otherwise, both the 79 kWh and 86 kWh battery packs primed in the respective SWB and LWB models are retained in this hotter GTX guise.
VW also notes that SWB version’s 79 kWh unit continues to accept up to 200 kW DC charging inputs, thus allowing 20-80% re-charges done in 30 minutes.
Retained is the standard ID-Buzz SWB and LWB versions' versatile seating layout and configuration.
With peppier outputs come the need for sportier style to match, and VW obliges well. In GTX guise, both the SWB and LWB versions don a new lower bumper design, along with diamond-mesh grille, mirror caps, along with 19-inch (standard) and 21-inch (optional) wheels finished in gloss black.
The most obvious touch from the GTX treatment though is its exclusive two-tone Chery Red paintjob, which can be reduxed over a silver hue in two-tone scheme. However, the ID.Buzz’s rich selection of colours remains available in this hotter version still too.
Exclusive touches in the cabin sees GTX-badged seats, black headliner, a myriad of black trims, black microfleece seat covers with red pipe-stitching, and GTX-branded steering wheel.
On board, the GTX treatment also see a new black headliner, richer use of black trims, seats wrapped in black microfleece with red stitching, GTX-badged steering wheel with red pipe-stitching, and a massive panoramic glass roof.
SWB versions get a choice of two-, five- or three-row six-seat configurations, while going for the LWB adds a seven-seat option. All get VW’s latest ChatGPT-powered infotainment system and 12.9-inch touchscreen module.
European and UK buyers will be able to secure a GTX starting summer this year ahead of deliveries within the second half. Availability in other markets remains unclear for now, but we’re certain UK-spec right-hand-drive (RHD) units might land locally through recon (grey/parallel) importers.
