New BYD Denza Z9 GT Is A 952 HP-Rated Sporty EV Wagon

The all-new Denza Z9 GT EV wagon is a brainchild between BYD and Mercedes-Benz.
Partnerships between Chinese and European marques have become more common in recent years, and some of these collaborations have borne a slew of exciting projects, especially on the all-electric front. Joining the long list of Sino-European masterpieces is the all-new Denza Z9 GT – a sleek EV wagon with up to 952 HP under its garb.
Borne out of a collaboration between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, Denza is positioned as a luxury-biased sub-brand alongside the likes of Fangchengbao and Yangwang. With BYD owning 90% of Denza’s shares, the Z9 GT gets most of its electric hardware from the Chinese automaker, and that includes BYD’s proprietary ‘Blade’ battery pack.

The Denza Z9 GT is said to boast a triple electric motor setup with up to 952 HP.
While Denza has yet to reveal the exact capacity and maximum range this unit garners, said battery pack will be in charge of juicing the Z9 GT’s triple electric motor setup. According to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the tri-motor setup boasts a total system output of 952 HP (710 kW), with the single front unit generating 308 HP (230 kW) by itself and the motor pair at the rear axle each delivering 322 HP (240 kW).
While its power output may sound impressive on paper, the Denza Z9 GT is no featherweight, as this EV wagon weighs 2,875 kg, making it heavier than several luxury SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Combined with its sub-1,000-HP power output, the Denza Z9 is said to boast a V-Max of 240 KM/H, while no acceleration figures were given by the automaker.

Measuring over five metres long, the Denza Z9 GT is also noticeably larger than most European performance wagons.
Putting aside its triple motor setup and battery system, we’d reckon the Z9 GT’s weight is somewhat justified after you consider the large stature of this EV wagon. Measuring 5,180 MM long, 1,990 MM wide, 1,500 MM tall, and a wheelbase of 3,125 MM, the Z9 GT is substantially longer than both the Porsche Panamera and Taycan Cross Turismo, which are often touted as the ultimate fast wagons.

Penned by Mercedes-Benz design team, the Denza Z9 GT stood more as a shooting brake than a fast wagon per se, with said EV featuring a sleek roofline with a rakish rear windscreen and thick C-pillars to give it a coupe-ish look. The front end comes with slim LED headlights and a sculpted bumper with large air intakes, while the side part comes with flushed door handles, digital side-view cameras, as well as a slew of wheel options.

At the rear, the Z9 GT gets a pair of wide LED taillights plus a dual spoiler setup—one mounted on the roof, one on the tailgate. To match the front bumper’s sculpted design, the Z9 GT’s rear bumper also comes with prominent accents and diffuser-like elements finished in gloss black.
Unlike many Chinese EVs we’ve covered prior, the Denza Z9 GT won’t be a Chinese domestic market exclusive model, with BYD planning to export them in several international markets, including Europe later in 2025. Ahead of that, the Denza Z9 GT is slated to make its first public appearance at the upcoming 2024 Beijing Auto Show (Auto China 2024), with local deliveries set to follow up soon.
