New MG EXE181 Concept Previews Marque’s Future EV Hypercar

MG unveils the new MG EXE181 EV hypercar concept ahead of its Auto China 2024 debut later this week.
As if the sporty MG Cyberster is not enough, it appears that the SAIC-owned MG has a much sportier concept model under its wraps, known as the MG EXE181. Unveiled ahead of its Auto China 2024 debut later this week, this single-seater EV hypercar concept is poised to spawn the marque’s upcoming flagship EV hypercar, set to go against the likes of the Rimac Nevera and GAC Aion Hyper SSR.

The new EXE181 concept draws inspiration from MG's original EXE181 land speed record car, featuring a single-seater layout with a capsule-shaped cockpit.
Just to give an idea of what this EV concept is meant to be, the EXE181 gets its name from MG’s original EXE181 land speed record car, which debuted back in 1959. The homage goes beyond its name, with the EXE181 concept getting the same single-seater layout with a capsule-shaped cockpit, with the front end featuring some transparent materials that provide a glimpse of the concept’s monocoque structure and its suspension setup.

More importantly, the EXE181 concept also comes with several aerodynamic parts, like fully enclosed wheels and a long tail with active flaps. Together with its sleek body shape, MG claims the EXE181 concept to boast an impressive drag coefficient rate of 0.181 Cd.

The MG EXE181 concept comes with a quad-motor setup that allows it a sub-2-second 0-100 KM/H finish.
As for its powertrain setup, the MG EXE181 concept swaps its predecessor’s 1.5-litre engine in favour of a quad electric motor setup. While MG has yet to detail the exact output this motor setup boasts, the automaker says that the concept is capable of a sub-2-second century sprint time of 1.9 seconds, making it quicker than the Rimac Nevera, which was recently touted as the most powerful production EV in the world.

The all-new MG EXE181 EV concept is set to make its public debut at the upcoming Auto China 2024 motor show later this week. As of now, MG has yet to confirm any plans to mass produce this manic, single-seater EV hypercar, although we’d reckon the automaker may use some of the technologies derived from it in their upcoming EV models.
